I have my cdl and work for a company full time, right now I'm doing maintenance work. I'm wondering though if it would make any sense to start up a company moving freight between Boston and NYC or areas in between using a box truck since I live about halfway between the two cities. Im thinking that by going non-cdl with a 24' box truck I would be able to hire from a much larger pool of drivers and pay a lot less to the driver. Also buy a used truck a lot cheaper and lower insurance than going tractor trailer. My main question is how does someone find the freight for a box truck and is there any money in it? I'm sure there are some gaping holes in this idea or else I would have done it already but I'm interested in any informed opinions or ideas from the forum community. Thanks

Find a need and fill the need. Yes you can run a box truck, but you will have to find the freight, right ? One thing to consider, a box truck is lower than a trailer, so won't work at a typical dock to load/unload unless tossing the freight on/off.
