    Hey folks,

I've got a question for you because this is the first time I've been around the Chicago area. Scouting my route ahead of time on Google maps and noticed this gem (photo attached). I can't see any other way to the warehouse I'm going to and this route is littered with trucks of various lengths despite this sign ("Non designated truck route" and "Camera enforced"). Does this mean something other than what I'm taking it as which is no trucks? This is in Bellwood on 25th st by the way. Thanks for any advice you may have or resources you could share!

Maybe if you can give where you are going someone here can give legal truck directions.

Hi! Thanks for the reply, I'd really want to but I don't really feel comfortable sharing the specifics of my route online. I know this makes asking for help harder and I'm sorry! I am mostly wondering the intention with the signs meaning and if it really does mean no trucks. I noticed you implied this isn't a legal truck route is that right? Thanks again for your help!

Call the Bellwood Police Department and ask them to verify is the street in question is okay for you to be on or not.

Its not a truck route, but it doesn't mean you cant deliver in that area.
A truck route is a route that trucks must follow for "through" traffic.
It doesn't mean local truck traffic can't go into the area, trucks just aren't allowed to drive "through" the area to get from one side of town to the other. A truck isn't allowed on that route if he isn't delivering in that area.

There's a difference in "Not A Designated Truck Route" & "No Trucks Allowed".

Let me add that I know less than zero about Chicago. Been there one time in my driving career.

“State non-designated highways The Illinois Department of Transportation has a lot of roadway to cover. The bulk of non-designated state routes are unmarked, but there are plenty of marked state highways which are non-designated as well. Vehicles traveling on these state non-designated highways are not afforded the same length as their state designated highway counterpart.”

Basically it’s a length restriction for that class road.

Oh, man, I used to just LOVE routing myself around Chicago.
How many old-timers used to deal with a company called "Chicago Routing" to make a delivery? Your company would pay this company for their services, and you would call in to an 800- number, give them your company's code, tell them where you were coming from and where you were going to, and they would tell you the route to take. I guess this company went out of business about 40 years ago??

    bzinger and JoeyJunk Thank this.
