Please remember, that alot of the companies out there you lease to will tell you they have non forced dispatch. In most cases if you dont take what they offer you, many times only 1 load, then you get put on the crap list. When they tell you non forced dispatch, that they mean non forced dispatch. The company i am leased to has true non forced dispatch. They really dont care whether you want it or not and wont try to force it on you unless it is really hot. Besides this pc. of advise, do not run any companies tags, carry their insurance, or pay for their cargo insurance. A rep. company will take the insurance you can find thru the ooida, and they cannot force you to run their insurance. That way when it is time to depart from that company, you still have insurance, and you are running on your base plate.

These companies make it sound like it's something great that they don't have forced dispatch. The truth is that if they have forced dispatch then legally you are an employee and not an independent. That is one of the IRS's first test of Independent Contractor vs. Employee status.
MudDuck1 Thanks this. -
Preacher Man is correct!!!! If you don't have a "no forced dispatch" contract, then you are just an employee with a truck.
Regarding your other comments. I would agree up to a point. If you can get a real good deal on insurance, tags, etc and you are with a reputable outfit, then going that route could be a good business move. If there are no cost savings, then do it yourself. If a person does what you say, they would appear paranoid of signing on with the carrier and probably haven't done their homework in checking them out. I have my own tags (they reimburse me for cost of my own tags, so no cost to me), but I use the cost savings thru them for truck insurance. I have my own health insurance. If I needed to bail out of this carrier (can't see that move anytime soon) then a quick call, and I can get physical damage, liability, and non trucking insurance.
I guess that I have no problem because I usually stay with a carrier for several years at a time anyway and it usually takes a major issue like a carrier going under or selling out before I search for better pastures. I guess if I jumped ship all the time, then your advise might be sound for me. -
Could I ask who you're leased to? Thank you.
