What you're doing there is also a two-fold issue that's asking for trouble.

If you're having trouble staying awake, they dot is going to ask why. they know what that medication is for, and even if they didn't, unlike 50 years ago everyone has the Internet in their hand. You may not get into trouble for having it, but they'll very likely assume that you require examining by a dot Doctor for any kind of sleeping disorders.

So as @Criminey Jade stated, your concern isn't the pill itself, or it being found, it's what they assume you're taking it for.

The last thing you face is something that few actually consider when ordering online.

Above is that infamous little blue pill. It's labelled on the bottom which one is a fake and which is real, but without that labelling...you'd never know what you're taking is a fake.

Companies overseas have many ways of skirting verification of what they are sending you. The biggest one being that the US government has no jurisdiction in the country where the pills are being made or sold.

This is not applicable to all online pharmacies, however I would urge you to be careful and know where you're buying from.

eh maybe it's not worth it then.

    I could justify it
IF -it was inexpensive WITH prescription.

I am not so concerned with what they 'think' it is and what it actually is. Because actually, it's not a stimulant. Actually it is not among black listed prescriptions. And it is prescribed for more than just narcolepsy.
It is also prescribed for ADHD and it has off label use for a number of things. Olympic sprinters were among the latest to use it off label.

Maybe I will take the completely over the counter supplements that I haven't tried before like the racetams and noopept etc

And that's the thing, I am NOT having trouble staying asleep. Are all the dot officers that pull me over simpletons? I asked my trainer about it and he was nervous cause I was talking about 'taking drugs'.

Maybe while they are busy using google, they can look up the definition of 'nootropic'.

The knee jerk reaction I have received since asking (not here so much) but from other truckers, you would of thought I showed them FIRE for the first time.

I used to work in a pharmacy, so not much of this is new to me.

I wasn't a pharmacist, but at the end of the day I could hold my own at pharmaceutical conventions and most had no idea I wasn't.

You and I both know that most, if not all, medications have more than one use. The issue you run in to is...

    Hrm... Let's use... Viagra. :D

Viagra has a very well known use in men. However, did you know that the same drug is used in women?

Yep. It's been used for certain types of hypertension, but also helps women with Raynauds not be as sensitive to the cold. There are plenty of other off label or alternate uses, but as soon as the general public gets it in their head that a medication is used "for" something, it's difficult to change that opinion.

This is an old thread, but our regulatory environment has changed, and I’ve accumulated more information.

THERE IS LITTLE OPPORTUNITY TO ABUSE OR EXPLOIT WAKEFULNESS DRUGS

Drivers are now under 24 hour electronic surveillance; employers and enforcement agencies know when we’ve been sleeping, they know when we’re awake, they know when we’ve been bad or good.

But Santa Claus never threatens your livelihood.

The feds aren’t obligating a “do you hold a CDL license?” on all employment applications, to ensure non-driver work is tallied up as on-duty, not driving, but a series of nationally publicized accidents might provoke such a law.
This regulatory environment should encourage physicians to be more trusting that a prescription would not be abused, but most physicians are ignorant of the rules, and frightened of bad outcomes.

I suggest the supplement Adrafinil, if you haven’t previously damaged your liver by alcohol or drug abuse, hepatitis, etc.

No prescription is required, but don’t expect Amazon to stock it (theft by the overworked employees).

Perform your due diligence, do your research, etc. and if you do try a bottle, follow some simple rules:

No food two hours before taking.
No food two hours after taking.
No caffeine (until the effects begin to wear off)
    Drink plenty of water.
I wouldn’t use it more than four days a week.

Don’t offer samples, don’t call Adrafinil a drug (it’s a supplement), best not to talk about it. and don’t waste your time and money with the medical profession, in pursuit of a Modafinil prescription.

A DOT five panel screen won’t detect Adrafinil, or Modafinil.

At this point in time detection requires a blood/plasma draw, a gas chromatograph and a spectrometer.

I'm not a trucker, but I sell nootropics. I found this discussion when I was wondering if truckers knew what adrafanil and modafanil are.

They are both eugeroic drugs designed to keep a person alert. Modafanil is prescription only, and it is schedule IV due to a low risk of addiction. So if you take it without a prescription then it illegal.

Both drugs work about the same. They stop your brain from releasing the chemicals that make you drowsy for about 12 hours. I think they are also approved for long term use, but you really should check with a Dr.

Yes, they are prescribed for narcolepsy, but also for "Shift Work Disorder." Basically it means that you work overnight. Humans have circadian rhythms that we need to deal with. Even if you get 8 hours of sleep, if you are up all night then your body will punish you for it. If anyone has worked a night job, slept til 2pm, then gotten up an felt grumpy and miserable the next day then you know what I'm talking about. I think its right that its prescribed for this because the stress that working nights puts on your body and relationships is often significant.

If you are taking any type of drug like prozac or any other psychiatric drug, you can't take this drug (any you need to be really careful about any drug you take anyway.)

Will it show up in a drug test? Most likely not. Chemical testing doesn't work how it does on TV or movies. You don't poor urine in a machine and it tells you everything a person has in their system. Drug tests look for specific chemicals, often using a reagent test. A little strip of paper that changes color. I'm not an expert, but I do know how typical reagent tests work, as well as HPLC and NMR tests.

If you have good medical insurance, Modafanil is the way to go. You're always a bit safer under the care of a good primary care physician. If you want to go it alone, you can buy Adrafanil. But this is what you need to know:

Its not a supplement. It is just a chemical, and do one can stop you from taking it just like no one can stop you from drinking bleach. If you want to experiment on yourself, you are on your own. It might be safe, but there are no drug trials that are going to prove that. Don't expect support from the company that sold it to you or expect to sue anyone if things go bad.
