I work for Fedex hauling doubles and have always been told that North Carolina state route 68 is restricted for doubles. It is the shortcut from 220 to I40. When I have hauled singles down this road I have seen other company doubles on it. I have been trying to find this answer out online for a day now and I am hoping someone here knows. I can't ask Fedex because they have set routes they want us to take but we all go the shortest possible.

are there no signs ANYWHERE on that route to tell you? cuz if there's no signs. then it shouldn't be a problem.
everyone says you can't take 53 foot trailers along the 550 in new mexico. yet there's no signs. and i've seen double bellies along that route all the time.
it was a long winded discussion on this sight 2 years ago. -

If you have truck set at 48' 96" it should take you on US-550. It is not restricted- just not STAA.
A lot of states do not post restrictions.
Thanks,

I've been stopped by the NM DOT at the border patrol checkpoint near Deming on NM26. That is not a designated route but the officer made no mention of my trailer length. -
Non-STAA = 48',96"
STAA - 53', 102"
this is for any state.. -

i'd sure like to hear about this STAA. cuz man, i've never heard it mentioned till this websight.
where does one find these teachings?????
i've hauled 60 foot rebar on nm550. actually had dot sitting at that checkpoint at the state line one time and had to buy a trip permit. never said a word about my length.
