Hello Drivers... Been hanging around forums since June. Recently made account here. I have read most of the current threads here regarding the ups and downs of trucking before you trolls start flaming.
Seriously giving trucking thoughts of career change.. I have worked in prison as a C.O. for 8 years but recently the job has gotten much worse with the recent uprisings of attacks on L.E.O. and Alabama hasn't wanted to keep our raises with the cost of living.
The only reason I stay with the state is the excellent BCBS health insurance but with Obamacare the prices have steadily risen.
Anyways, having said all that what are you family guys paying for health insurance out there in this industry currently?... if you don't mind my asking.
Not a driver yet ... Health insurance question

Ive been covered by insurance in trucking, but have very little use of it. Being healthy.
Obamacare has destroyed and laid waste to the People when you consider insurance today. My own family doctor has explained to us the impact it had on him while barely holding on to his temper. Several of my other doctors have completely opted out of insurance all together, what they WILL do is arrange you to get a care card and make payments against same on your own after a necessary procedure.
Rates are increasing another 17 to 25% next year and Aetna is suffering 300 million in losses enough to file to completely get out of the Obamacare system entirely, depriving me and quite a few states with the one option they have for insurance. They are also trying to combine with Humana which IS defacto the Government Obamacare Exchange now. When they BREAK and quit that's that for insurance all together.
I do not bother to go to hospitals anymore and use the kits at home to fight as best I can whatever happens. My last ER visit accrued 9000 dollars in 2 hours of blood drawing (1000 for a mathematics person to work through the lab in Texas for the blood work.) ultimately the Hospital wrote it off. And Im lucky not to be chased by the IRS for the 9K as income for that year some time ago. That time is coming ... I had insurance, but it paid diddly. Might as well not to have it. It's better.
Under the 1986 law everyone presenting to a ER is treated until Stable.
The worst thing about medical work these days is the twisted war on drugs going after pain patients legitimately using a doctor's order for schedule 1,2 or 3 medicine, The Government would prefer we do not have access to that stuff at all.
I think because there are only a few Coops still standing (Not for long) and that the American People have failed to buy Obamacare for obvious reasons (Paying the IRS fine of 2000 per family per year is cheap compared to a Obamacare policy.
Some medical workups are so expensive you are essentially BK when they get through with you. My Mother's liver transplant and discovering of certain infections not previously noticed and killed her 40 days later. The billing came to right about 265000 dollars. They wrote that off. Military insruance paid some. But refused the rest.
If you can purchase insurance then do it. But be prepared to pay the first 5 to 10,000 dollars in billing before it kicks in. A single MRI ride is 12,000 for a hour and half. We were double insured plus spouse worked for the hospital so the boss in charge of billing tore it up in our presence and threw it away. Otherwise we would still be paying in that 10 years later.Cyoteugly Thanks this. -
im a healthy 24 year old smoker and mine is 44 a week...or 176 a month. to put my wife and kids on it would be 150 a week
I wish the US had government run free health care. defense spending is HALF the national budget. and all obamacare did was ad a poverty tax to folks who don't have insuranceCyoteugly Thanks this. -

My last job where I took insurance (last year) was $42/wk for a family but we were Union and many other Union shops have free insurance. The place I work now (open shop) is astronomical, if I couldn't get ins from my wifes job I'd have to quit. Many times high deductible is the only way to make it affordable.
