You need to think outside of "for hire" trucking and look @ private fleets. Look @ delivering beer/soda, look @ construction companies. Failing that apply @ the major LTL carriers such as Conway, YRC, UPS just to name a few.

That's right . You can't support a family working for training companies . Four to eight weeks at school with no income . People that won't work at minimum wage jobs work as trainees for 60 hours a week or more for a month or more . How's your family getting provided for all that time ?
Check my posts . Earlier this morning I posted ads from Coca Cola and Pepsi . No schooling is required . Experience is just a plus . Jobs are available that don't keep you from your family .

It is hard. I started on Nov. 1st trying to get my CDL and start driving a truck. Finally my Orientation (unpaid will be on Jan. 3). I hope I go out with a mentor directly from Orientation, so I can finally earn some money. So almost 2 months with no pay so far.

We have been depending on my Wife's income at a convenience store to pay bills. Also I need to take some cash with me so that I can eat my first two weeks with my mentor. It will probable be Mid January before I get my first paycheck of $450 a week for 1st 4 weeks with mentor. Then I get $500 a week for final two weeks for mentor.

After all of that I still will not have a job until I pass a driving test with the company. Then I can go solo finally at .25 a mile for the 1st three months. So for every 1000 miles they pay me for I can earn $250. After all of that, they don't pay for all the miles I drive. They use the Household Movers Miles, which from what I understand, I will loose at least 10% of the miles I actually drive. So to make $500 a week, I need to drive 2200 miles...

Whew, Starting out in trucking is hard. I just hope that a year from now I can earn $40k a year.

You can go to Swift Transportation and contact a recruiter and they can help you. But by no means I am suggesting Swift. They just seemed like the best choice for me. Since you care going to a private school, they may have referrals that will be better for your situation. Analyze all your options and see what works best for you.

If you think getting a job elsewhere is hard try keeping an OTR job .
