I have never seen one where they are leased at sticker price.
Most of the time the truck is leased from the manufacturer, by the company. Then it is leased to the driver by the company.
Payments are all over the board. Some fairly reasonable, with payments put on hold when driver is on home time etc. And most of them you will never want to own the truck.
The buyout at the end of most is the full retail value of that truck, which nobody in their right mind would ever pay at a dealership. It is about 10-15k more than what anyone would ever pay for it. And at this point most of the trucks have well over 600k miles on them and have not been maintained well.

That being said, a few are not bad. The only decent one I know of at a large carrier is the one at Crete. But I am sure their are a few more. None that I know of in refregerated at all. But that does not mean they do not exist. I have only read the details on maybe 5 of those over the years.

One of the worst parts of the contract on these things is that the company can terminate you at any time for any reason, or no reason at all, and terminate the lease at the same time, for the same reason.
So you could be doing well, and thinking about buying that truck, but if the company does not want you to then they could fire you and take back the truck. No questions asked. At least with a real capital lease it is your truck. And then you lease your truck to the company, so the people you are leasing from have no control over what you make.

By the way. Most of the failures that I have seen first hand over the years from people that I know had nothing to do with them. The company's starved them out. They had actually been running well and making good money till the company decided to drop their miles. Be it for not wanting to train or some other reason.
Many times I am sure the drivers do it to themselves. But that is not the case with the people that I know that have failed.

For some of us, it's not all about the money. For some of us, it's about having a level of relative freedom. I'd never do a lease deal where I was still dictated which loads I have to take and/or how long I had to stay out. I'm at Schneider on their Choice program, and so far it's working for me just as I was hoping it would. But on the whole, I agree with your post.

why would anyone want to agree to stay somewhere where one isn't making money, and two one isn't happy.....If one isn't happy screw it move on no harm no foul...and if they at least any type of decent company once you mention swift, they will understand and let it go.....lmao....

Move on driver, find a place where you can make money, and be happy.....listen to some of these people that have already posted and well you be miserable and complaining all the time....it will be like being married to a wife you cannot stand and have to stay just because one needs to get things done.... run..driver...run

America would be a better place if these "just stroke my hair and i'll work for free" types would all just go move to Mexico.

If you read between the lines of a lot of these posts, you will find out that the driver is the one that is BAD more than the company.

So you're saying thousands and thousands of drivers are all wrong?

because packard did ask if it was bad or not to move on...and some feel that one should stay and tough it out while being miserable and underpaid....

I just re-iterated from my orginal posting that he should move on, and that its ok to move on and not worry about it......

I guess if one would read all the posts and not just start in the middle one would understand the connection...but most are too lazy to start from the first post to the end to reply...

And with both drivers A and B being paid peanuts per mile, could it possibly be that both are getting screwed?
