Similar situation... fortunatly trailer is equipped with EBS (RSS+Jacknifing avoid program)
Not a smart move for a guy hauling Haz-Mat.

Don't those new trucks all have ABS and traction control?
The OEMs, the safety gurus and the gubbamint would have us believe the technology would have prevented this. -
Dinomite, Wargames and AfterShock Thank this.

A "professional" would scream in a lower voice. :smt034
This Is Your Life, --- Flash-Flash. Blink-Blink.:smt104
And I doubt a "professional" would scream post incident, ---
Only before and during.
To continue screamin' after the fact could be considered
overkill.
Ya reckon.
Break one-nine.
Where's the nearest Big truck truck stop
with a laundry room?
By the time he screamed, "What the hail are you doin'"?!!!! ---:smt091
it should have been obvious.
Better question mighta been,
"What the hail am I gonna do"?!!!!! :smt087
Just as it's possible to out drive headlights, it's also possible to
out drive the light in the head. :smt115
Was his head in the Big truck's cab?
Or downrange 'bout a quarter mile?
The Smith System says "Aim High".
When operating in such conditions, I ask myself,
"What's the worst that could happen in a situation like this"?
And plan for it.
If nuthin' happens, ---
no harm, no foul.
If sumthin' does happen, ---
at least there'd be a plan.
Oh WaiT!
The Smith System also tells us to
"Plan Ahead".
Anticipate the unexpected.
Or is it
Expect the unanticipated?
I forget.
Perhaps you assume the wrong gender.
Let's be fair to the wimmen-folk.
They're just as capable as the male species, and, in this case,
would, no doubt, provide a much better scream. :smt112
Guys don't realize that once the danger has passed, it ain't
necessary to continue screamin'.
With objects as Big and heavy as a Big truck, even minimal damage is potentially deadly.
Less dead, or more dead?
Exactly the same,
only different.
Speed Kills, they say.
I say Bovine Excrement!
T'ain't the speed that kills.
Fact.
It's the sudden that kills.
is there enough room/time for mitigatin'?
Unless, ........ pre-mitigatin' can be included with
the pre-tripigatin'.:smt036
Right-side guardrail damage as opposed to a head-on.
Even if he wasn't aware of it, the downhill bound driver
musta done sumthin' right, :smt045
besides pullin' to it.
I'll tell y'all what, ---
I'd like to read his account of the incident.
Start the first chapter with, .......
MaN!
Y'all ain't gonna believe this
S hip
H igh
I n
T ransit
Hmmmmmm -----
I'm thinkin' it wouldn't get past the BaD WorD FilteR.
Now, ........ we haveta use our imagination, vividly.
Thank gawd there ain't no imagination filter.
Yet. :smt112Noggin Thanks this. -
I can only speak for myself. I've faced death a number of times, in a number of different circumstances, and if I had not had room/time for mitigatin' I sure would not be here today.
I'm not saying I never needed to pry the seat out of my back side, or change my drawers, but I have never panicked. (Perhaps I should add, "YET.") I can't think of anything more certain to cause death or at least injury.
-
For all of you guys making fun of the driver hitting the guardrail and screaming, unless you've been in a head-on collision, you don't need to comment.

Unbelievable. Neither one of them reacted for seconds.
I don't like that road in good conditions. I've seen many stupid moves along there. Add in the fact that people get even more stupid around plows and increased truck traffic there in winter on that road makes it one I will avoid if at all possible.
Good to know the guardrail held up though.NavigatorWife and AfterShock Thank this. -

Totally agree. My first thought was the guy with the camera was hauling!!!!!!!!Dinomite Thanks this.
