Rent a car 1 way, take a bus, fly to Missoula, have someone drive you.

You will learn there is more to pay than mile pay. How do they figure the miles? Does your dispatcher make you deadhead real far between loads. Do they do business with places that get you unloaded fast. Do you go into cities that slow your miles down, and on and on it goes.

    Getting there isn't the issue.

I'll be giving up my apartment. Sticking everything in storage. No point in spending $3k+ on rent and stuff when I'm not going to be there at all.

I like my car, 2013 Hyundai Sonata Ltd, that's fully loaded, leather interior, navigation, backup camera, panoramic roof, Infinity sound, heated seats, the whole 9 yards. I still owe $10k.

I have no place to put it if I use other means to get to Missoula. I spoke to JP folks today and they have a locked yard for my car. But when I get back from all training and get my truck, then what? Heh, I'll be basically homeless, using NV as my address on paper (no state taxes = nice).

Reminds me of my 20's when I was a merchant seaman out of San Francisco. But back then I could park my Harley in friends garages and know it was safe and nearby when I got home 3 months later. That's not the case anymore however.

You could just do your "home time" in Missoula since it will be not very often anyway and if you wanted you could drive home from there in your car while on home time since you would have plenty of time built up and then drive back to Missoula when your "home time" is up.

That's actually a reasonable option Truckermania. Hadn't thought about that. I really only need to get back to Nv on occasion. Making Missoula my home away from home.
