My dad used to say JB was the best company in the world to work for. He worked for them for years and loved it. It was the last company he worked for. He got disqualified from driving for medical reasons. Otherwise he would still be there. Dad was a simple minded person. He loved the fact that JB was from Arkansas and he was too. He loved the fact that the trucks was stripped down. Some of the cabovers he drove didn't even have a radio. He loved staying out on the road and only running a few hundred miles a day. Sometimes he didn't break 2000 miles a week and that was fine with him. JB would keep him out for weeks at at time and constantanly call him at home. Even if he was only home for a scheduled 2 day hometime.
I on the other hand I saw from day one that JB was/is a crap company. They are having severe issues obtaining and retaining drivers. They have turned to the railroads to stay in business. I know only one JB driver now. She works out of Memphis and does intermodel driving for them. She runs a 350 mile radius of Memphis and has two days off a week. It fits her schedule but shes getting screwed over bad. She admitted that she could find something better but she...like my dad...isn't wanting to give it up. She told me she sometimes spends the night out on the road and shes only 50 miles away from her house. Plus her pay is simply laughable. I think she told me she's only getting $400 to $500 a week.
JB is a place to go when there is NO other option. Just my .02 cents worth.

Man, did that lady get an ear full. -
Like many companies, back in the day JB was a gr8 place to work! However, with the ever changing tides of economy, govt policy, and the like...many places (including JB) have seen better days! This is true for many companies if not all...just look at the union jobs - their really not any better off if you are honest in your assesment.
Anyway, if you haven't learned by now...we are not going to get rich driving a truck regardless of who you work for. You might make a little better at one place but you might also be working like a dog. Another place might pay you a little less but treats you like your the president of the company.
There has always been two sides to every story so I take everything I hear and read with a grain of salt. Opinions are like butt holes...everyone's got'em and thats perfectly alright because that is what makes our country so awesome.
If you don't like your situation....change it! I've worked for JB for seven years now. I was a driver with JB for almost two years before moving inside. I'll admit, you could not pay me to drive a truck again - not for JB or anyone! Yes we have our faults - just like everyone else but the way I see it were not going anywhere and regardless of what people say or think, our stock is up, our trucks are rolling and we were one of only a few companies to turn profits in 3Q10! We must doing something right! -
Was reading the paper here the other day, and it looks like Kirk Thompson is out as the CEO. My response to that is GOOD RIDDANCE. Guy mainly took over in 2006 after JB himself passed away and tried to run it into the ground (I used to be a recruiter there, haven't been now for 3 years)

In our experience there have been 2 companies that have been super good to my husband. One (and this was the one he cut his CDL teeth on) was McElroy Trucklines. They're a flatbed company and it is extra work, but they were ALWAYS straightforward and honest with him. They always respected our family time. Great for a newbie. The other company was Exel. Great pay, benefits, hometime, etc. Unfortunately, BJ Hunt had their tire account in their crosshairs. Walmarted the bid super low and won the account. It was interesting to watch the Exel drivers scatter like roaches (not calling them roaches), when word came down that it was JB taking the account. Hindsight is sure 20/20! Wish my hubby would have scattered. He'd have a good dac still. Exel is harder to get on with. They have higher hiring standards than JB does. It took my husband a month to get hired. Had to have more experience, tons a tests, background checks, you name it. It was well worth it though. They just don't have any open driver positions around here (low turnaround?). And even now, if they did, after the whole JB circus they'd take one look at his dac and send him walking. Well, at this point I am grateful that he is working. Especially so close to the holidays. Still trying to get medical coverage for our son that has to get occ therapy and medication. God will provide that much I am sure of! He already has been.

Actually justanother. I do stocks. Your story is full of holes. JB is NOT turning a profit. They, just like a lot of the large corporate companies are just doing better than they did last year. They are still reeling from the stock/financial collapse of '08. I wrote a huge thread about this on another forum.
All you have to do is log onto www.stockcharts.com and pull up 'ol JB's stock chart. The ticker is JBHT. If you do a three year chart on them you will see that the stock is just now getting back to where it was before the collapse in Oct '08. True they have stayed in business where others have failed, but to say they are profiting is a misconception. ALL mid cap to large cap companies that have stayed in business are going in the same direction. A company like JB is just "holding their own" and riding the tide.
Trust me on this I lost $40,000 on the market and I gained around $60,000 on it. Everyone is seeing what the tide was now. Hindsight is 20/20. The market started it's fall in Oct '08 and since then it has began to stable. It's just now leveling out from the collapse. It doesn't mean that we are out of the woods yet. It's anyone ballgame from here on out.
For your information there's companies like Pier One that has kicked JB's butt all over the place on the market. JB isn't crap. It's like a sub-prime loan. Stay away, stay away stay away. -
don,t go with jb hunt thy have the most hateful rock that i had to deal with "STAY AWAY"

Hey Dave, Justanothercrazytruckdriver said they were turning a profit. This is true as you can see here http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=JBHT. The stock's appreciation or depreciation has to do with supply and demand and investor perception. Companies that lose money every quarter sometimes have stock prices that go up. Amazon.com stock appreciated 1000% while losing money every quarter in the late 90s.
This is very basic information that any investor should know. Maybe you should stick to driving trucks. I'm hoping you are better at that than reading company stock prospectuses. -

On a lighter note, I just stopped in to the East Brunswick terminal to pick up another daycab for our Home Depot account and saw them pulling in a few new International OTR trucks, 2 different size sleepers. Beautiful inside and out.
