I hear ya RW and good advice BTW. One question I have learned to ask is "Has the Safety Director cleared me yet?" I will not make a move until I get the green light in writing from safety or safety calling me personally. You have to remember that the Safety Dept has all the say whether your hired or not and recruiting is what it is, ex used car salesman getting commission pay.

we have never accepted a job until they have everything back on us....that way there are no surprises...i always ask, ok, "we are hired pending drug test, road test and physical right?".......i wont come to orientation until they have everything on us back and signed off on by safety!!!!

I'm glad you brought this up TRW. You never heard of this stuff ten years ago. It seems these mega carriers are sending drivers walking. I never worked for a company like that. But we are hearing about it more and more.

This goes back to basic humanity. But corporate greed has stumbled to new lows in order to maximize them 7-9 digits. Even my last company that turned to crap would buy a rejected driver a ticket home.

The way I see it, the company brought you out there. They have the opportunity to do their homework before you leave home. They are ultimately responsible for getting you back home. It should be part of their risk in hiring a person.

All I can say to counter this selfish act is new drivers, don't go on the road broke. Have you at least $200 back up for an emergency like this. I understand some of you are coming from unemployment. At least coordinate with some family or friends to help out just in case prior to leaving. A bus ticket can be purchased online or over the phone from anywhere. Times like this a credit card can be a lifesaver.

This is one more reason to get your CDL at a community college, vo-tech or trade school near home.

When my wife decided to join me on the road we went to CRST because they had a train ur spouse program and the schooling wouldn't cost us anything. The group of students she started with was about 15. By the time it was all said and done only about 8 were left. 5 of them failed the DRUG test and 2 failed the physical. These students were taken to a bus stop but they had to buy their own ticket home.

Recruiters are not doing their job if they are not stressing the importance and consequesnces of the drug test and physical. For 1/3 of those students to fail the drug test, well to me, seems someone wasn't warning these potential drivers about how it all works.

Thanks Condo... Us old crusty drivers are seeing this happen to both new and vet drivers.. im trying to understand the concept behind the train of thought that these companies do to these people.. they put an app in..recruiter calls them and says your approved then they bus them to a strange place and yes some do fail physicals or missed on that hidden ticket but then they throw them out like used toys and tell them they are on their own..wouldnt it just be easier to get a driver qualified before you bring them to the company it can be done. i even saw a post about a driver that went to PRIME and because his license was on hold they disqualified him and he has no way home... this is a prime example of companies not doing the entire back ground check..they should have known first hand instead now there is a driver posting on here that he needs help...if i didnt live on the west coast i would go pick him up and drop him off at his door so he got home safe to his family....And thank you Condo you brought up another good point...make sure they have the money to get home just in case ......RW

A little something from the other side of it. You ask them have you ever had a dui? Have you ever had your license suspended? Have you ever been convicted of a felony?
The answer you get is no to all of them. After you run mvr/criminal you find out different.
    Their response is always:
That was more than 3/5/7 years ago(whichever theory they use)and you can't use that. Then you usually hear how they are going to sue you,the state, and everyone else.
You want to hide/omit something,it usually comes out.
