I've seen 1 time that EB Terre Haute scale on 70 in Indiana they had the prepass off making everyone line up on the shoulder and a trooper was waiting down by the rest area stopping the trucks that didn't pull onto the shoulder. Just a quick money grab for them.

So enlighten me on this topic.
In the USA if a scale is open, it is mandatory to pull in and get weighed?
In Canada unless the closed sign is lit up, it is not mandatory to stop.

  6. Outta 50 states nobody has a straight across the board they each have their own rules..
a giant mansion Tennessee and Indiana had major fatalities in massive lawsuits that prompted them to put up signs saying what to do if the scales are full..
other ones uses a money grab if you were to pull over on the shoulder there's nothing wrong with that many stop in the lane and continue not to move which is what happened in Indiana and Tennessee years ago..
problem is if you choose to go and there's not a sign that says it most of the time nowadays compared to 10 years ago with more idiots on the road than you can shake a stick at the cops don't really say too much..they'd rather you keep going then have a massive fatality of the scale house..
but the problem is each state can set their own laws so it's nothing like by the fmsc a or the ATA written across the board like CSA 2010 E logs yada yada yada..
each state is allowed to dictate and set their own rules as to how speed laws and driving laws are enforced or not enforced

I’ve ran by Southbound Rainbow(I-15) and Southbound San Onfre(I-5). Both where back up into the interstate. Neither came chasing me.

    Interesting.
Here you will be in BIG trouble!
Open is open, there are no exceptions because it is busy or whatever.

  9. yep especially in Ontario with the ministry

  10. nowadays a lot of common sense comes into play with more traffic than ever before but you did that about 10 years ago at banning I guarantee of the end results were a whole lot different most of the scale houses in California for that matter I know cajon would come chase you down...

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

If you run the same areas a lot you see who has chase cars and who doesn’t. Just roll the dice and wave at them when you go by.

I knew a guy who tried it in BC, he was pulled over by the police and kept there until CVSE CVSE - Home arrived about a half hour later. He was given a ridiculous amount of fines, they totalled over $1300 plus his license was revoked on the spot, he had to go to court and attempted getting it back, which he did a couple of years later, the truck and trailer were towed and impounded. All because he thought, what can they really do if i just drive on by the scales...well he found out the hard way what happens. I've never been tempted to try it myself, it just isn't that big of a deal to stop.
