$1 an mile? And you believed that enough to share it?

Admittedly this is 3 years old, bit I doubt they have raise their starting CPM by $.60

Im going to repeat this one more time... It's word of mouth. Regardless of if I believe it or not, it's what I've heard. Doesn't mean it's true or what I believe, but I haven't been corrected and I haven't heard anything from Walmart drivers. Fair enough?

either way, topic has been derailed...

I believe walmart lowered their requirements to 3 years experience with no accidents or any bad tickets of any kind in that 3 years. Also you have to have something like 100,000 miles per year in that 3 years. Something along the lines of that.

They get paid for a lot of extra stuff that no other company pays for, like sleeping in the truck

It usually was. But even the small stuff gets amplified in the truck. I think i am finally figuring it out. You really need to brush most stuff off and pick your battles very wisely. I only have 5 more months of this, 2-4 if i am lucky.

Trucking has been in my family for nearly 50 years (longer if you consider my great grandfather in WWII). I have planned on a trucking CAREER my whole life and was sitting in school before dawn on the morning of my 21st birthday. 2 months later I soloed with a shiny new truck and a shiny new career and one year later I couldn't be happier

One thing I can say is that trucking is not a job and should never be viewed as one... it is a crazy wonderful terrible boring exciting lifestyle and if you aren't MADE for it you will fail very quickly. Most people don't make it a year and even less make it 5.

My advice to you is to stick with it at least a year before deciding to quit as the first 6 - 8 months can be very stressful and discouraging. Once you see all 4 seasons and are use to driving/your company/truck you can make a better decision on how to go forward with your lifestyle choice as a trucker.

And by the way... stay away from a degree in IT. Way too competitive and as a result the pay is getting worse all the time.

You are thinking about going in the opposite direction I took. I went to school for IT and spent four years in it. I'd rather light myself on fire than spend another morning in a cubicle on a conference call to India or coaching some sales rep on how to make her printer work. Whatever is best for you is what's best for you, but that grass is not always greener.

I was not to the point of lighting myself on fire but you are 100% dead on with the rest. How bout mandatory 3 hr meeting every qt to tell us how good that India Co. was doing with all there abbreviations you had no clue what they were for then to tell you NO RAISE for the 3rd year!
After 15 years in I.T. it is time to move on to something they can not out source.........yet........driving a truck!
