Glad your still with it, who you running with now? I felt the exact same way you did when I first started in 2018 had to hit a few companies and found one that worked did a year with them and moved on to J&R Schugel where I’m on a Kroger dedicated home nightly run. My first trainer I was with was amazing, my first night I was ready to hang it up, we spent about 3 hours talking about why I got into the field and what I wanted.. needless to say I’m still turning the wheels and loving every minute of it
    Glad you stuck around
    Safe travels

And he started with Swift. He proved that you could be an A Game driver regardless of what mega carrier owned the truck.

Yes, we have. There are several people right here in TTR that also was with me on some other forums as well that we lost in 2020. I lost an old friend back in Feb I have known going back to high school. Several neighbors of mine have passed away this year. An old DOT type I have known for a while in Georgia did too. The year is not over yet. I know of three people in three different hospices that are close.

@Truemac I'm glad you hung around!

Sir, Happy Holidays to you first off.

Secondly, don't be discourage. The beautiful think about a CDL and the experienece you NOW have, is there are a GAZILLION driving jobs out there. And depending on your abilities the job are limitless and you can be driving with, or without an audience.

Get a passenger endorsement and drive motocoaches....

Bus, local, dumps, water trucks, hell go on indeed and type in cdl and the pages are endless.

There isn't enough pay in the world for OTR in my book. The hours suck and the pay sucks. Where I work i have local and paid hourly and my company is easy going the dispatchers are nice.

You have to look for the right fit.

"Every boulder in the road is NOT an obstacle, it is a challenge."

    Good luck

I was going to work over the holiday's but a storm made it too dangerous for me on Thursday, rain and a 40 temp drop, flash freeze, 10 inches w 60mph wind Wednesday night.
So decided to go up north w the wife for the holidays. First time in 10 years.
Spent xmas eve w mother in law and her husband, ate, had dinner, ate again, and looked at pictures etc.

Yesterday spent time w her 2 brothers and made a hospital visit to see another and today will visit and have dinner w her oldest sister and their extended family.
The 100K thread makes me wonder what's the point if I can't have quality off time.

After 46 plus years of trucking I feel like maybe I've had a revelation.
The MIL's husband recounted how when he retired at 59, the decision came because after 40 years of work he wanted to make sure he had time left to enjoy the retired life.
I don't want to croak after a couple years off...
Same w both her sisters and their husbands.

Got me thinking about my wife and my own future.
I believe w 2 years left till social security I'm going to make a change in the new year.
Looking to change a 70 hour week to a 40<50 hour week, which ain't an option here. Less stress and micromanagement.
Still enjoy the drive just not the b.s. and 46 winters have taken some luster off.

As others have said money is good, and we all chase it, but happiness and health becomes more of the goal as I get older..at least for me it has.

Edit. Got word this am that wife's brother who she visited with passed this morning RIP.

I want to be like my Pa in all ways EXCEPT the manner in which he spent his final years. A heart attack cut his career short and forced retirement. Instead of volunteering (there was a demand for his skills), he chose to sit on his easy chair. That was worse than the heart attack.

I'm currently with ABF on their linehaul division. It's only been 4 months but so far I'm happy here. I feel like if I had hired on here out the gate that I wouldn't appreciate this job as much as I do today. My previous OTR employers gave me a lot of perspective in that regard.
