Hey everyone, hopefully I’m posting this in the correct area. So I might have a small problem but I’m not really sure. I am currently employed by a large trucking company however last month I decided to apply to another large trucking company that mostly did everything in regards to the hiring online or through a service. I told them I would think about it and that the compensation package was not what I thought it would be. I never told them yes or I am excepting the conditional offer. 2 days ago I received an email saying I need to complete the dot urine sample at a lab within a certain time, also I received an email to give concern for the clearinghouse. I also received a text saying I needed to complete a bunch of other things. So here is my question, do I need to complete that urine test if I don’t plan on working for the company, I thought refusing to complete it is like getting a positive. I’m not worried if I do in fact need to do it since I am 100 percent clean, I just didn’t know how that works since I don’t plan on working for the company. Also should I email them and tell them I never approved this or accepted this job. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks
Not sure what to do. Please help

Someone asked a similar question recently and I THINK you are OK to skip the pre-hire drug screen. Since you have not been hired, you can be hired until the company performs their "due diligience" as to your suitability to be hired, not taking the pre-hire drug screen is not refusing to take a drug screen. It would really be helpful if you had some sort of written communication expressing your decision to not work for the new company, especially if it made your decision known before the date of getting notified about the pre-hire drug screen. Until the experts weigh in, I'm pretty confident they will also conclude it's OK to skip it. I would double-check that you are good to go with the Clearinghouse.
Hopefully your current employer won't be notified you are looking at other offers and punish you for it. If it comes up I'd say you had to apply just to find out the details, not because you are planning to leave your current job, if that is true. -
As long as you never show up for the test, it is not a refusal to test, it is a refusal of their conditional offer of employment. Make sure you e-mail them back to inform them you have decided to not hire on with them prior to the end of their demanded period to test.
Save the e-mail, just in case, and don't give consent for the clearinghouse... don't refuse it yet, either. Once you have chosen a new employer, consent to their clearinghouse request and take their drug screening. At that point, refuse the consent to the other company and drive on. If anything were to be entered in the negative, all you need is the e-mail where they informed you of the test they wanted you to take, and the email where you told them you were no longer interested in working for them. Refusing to test is only a disqualifier for pre-employment screening if you show up, check in, and then refuse to test. -
Sounds to me like the new place is trying to pressure you into signing on the dotted line. F em.

I wouldn't risk anything. I'd take the drug test, then decline the job offer.
It's getting more difficult to find jobs for SAP graduates. Many SAP graduates simply didn't show up for a drug test; thinking it's not important, even though they could pass the test.Last edited: Oct 19, 2022

Don't sweat it. Failure to show up for a pre-employment test is not a refusal to test and there are no consequences. Here is the applicable regulation from Part 40 of the drug and alcohol testing regulations.
49 CFR § 40.191 - What is a refusal to take a DOT drug test, and what are the consequences?
