I m just now getting into the trucking business. Going to get my license on the cheap.
A local is going to let me use his truck for
practise and training to get my cdl. Going to be a couple months til complete. My question... i m a dependable kind of guy at 60. Once i get my cdl, was wandering if any of you guys could use a team driver on your rig. I m in Houston and will be willing to drive couple hundred miles for the right OTR mileage. Just thinkin out loud.

I have no idea of your physical condition (obviously) but at 60, if you are not just real confident in your physical condition, it might be worthwhile to go to a doctor who does driver exams and certifications just to insure you're good in that regard before going to all the trouble of getting your CDL.

Also, be confident in your ability to operate 11-13 hour stretches, 6 and 7 days a week, weeks at a time.

Welcome to TTR Joe. Most team operations are constantly rolling. That said, most will want you to drive 10 hours at a time. There isn't many opportunities in team operations to run casually. Each driver needs a 10 hour break by federal regulations. One drives, one sleeps. Your partner would get mad if you just drove 200 miles. :)

Your best bet would be to work directly with a small factory that has a couple trucks that run as needed. I worked at one factory that had a relief driver. He just filled in when there was an extra run or someone laid out. Something like that sounds more like what you might want.

If you go OTR, you'll be expected to work 10-14 hours a day.

Condo: i will be willing to drive 200miles to hook up for an OTR run, not just drive 200miles. I would be peeved as well if my partner only drove 200 mi on a 2000 mi gig. I am still interested if there is anyone out there that would be willing to hire a newly licensed driver within couple three hundred miles of houston.
