As an employer, you don't want to risk the he said/she said and just pay them out. Some might but a larger company that has experience and knowledge of these matters just try to keep it by the book. That's my experiences anyways.

Small guys don't seem to have to follow the labour code. But it will only happen once and then they are screwed.

If thats the case, you'll be getting a notice at least once a week, if not more! :biggrin_255:

I'd still give notice. Just because one company doesn't want to handle themselves professionally doesn't mean I would lower my standards of professional behavior. You don't need to bring yourself down to their level.

Last job I left (not trucking) I gave 30 days notice and helped them find my replacement.

Were I to leave my trucking job I would have another job already lined up. Tell them I had to work a 2 week notice, then notify my company. If they fire me right away a quick call to the new job probably gets me started right away.

I started the other company right away. Really wasn't no big deal, Kinda figured they was going to do this anyway but i just wanted to do the right thing. Funny thing is this was a pretty good company i thought, Its a big chemical company and it will take them around six months to get someone trained to take over my old position. As we hauled alot of hazard gases, Acids , And Caustics. But atleast they can't say i didn't turn in the stupid thing. LOL

That's the high road and you didn't burn the bridge. You might want to go back some day. Stranger things have happened.
