Some companies will route you to the nearest terminal and let you figure a way home. Wanna risk it?

I guess you can give a 2 week notice on the Qualcom while doing home time. They may want your truck brought in to process out.

    The way it should be.

1 of my drivers ( been here 3 years ) handed in his 2 weeks notice 2 weeks ago , his wife just retired and they are headed to Arizona.

He worked right up until yesterday , today is his last day.

I asked him yesterday if he wanted a short run to finish off with , he thanked me and headed out.

This morning he was back in the yard.

He washed his truck , cleaned the inside. ( I pay them for that ) , turned in all his company stuff , and paperwork. Was handed his pay right to the minute , + vacation pay.

He thanked us for the 3 years he was here and we thanked him for doing a great job and taking care of the equipment , said his goodbyes and headed home.

    Flatbed,
You run a "trucking company" like it should be, you are one of the few out there who respects the drivers, and in return gets the respect an Owner should get. My Hat is off to you and the driver who resigned. Kudos

Well for wrong or for right as far as any particular company goes, I AM THE ONE that has to look at my ugly mug in the mirror every morning when I shave. (If I shave, that is.) And I want to always be able to respect what I am looking at when I do so.

What I'm trying to say here, in my half-baked way, is that to me, doing the right thing, BECAUSE it is the right thing to do, is what counts. Have I always managed to do so? No, of course not, I'm as human as anybody else.

Yes, I have left jobs with no notice. But I've never felt right about it when I've done it. Even the one job that I left where I actually did tell the boss to take his job, his store and everything else he had and shove it up his, (you get the idea.) I still sort of regretted not giving notice to the company, even though the boss was a jack arse.

Yet Doc I have also got the ones who shall we say BUCK the SYSTEM. Know everything , cry about everything , have an opinion on how I do business.

Had 2 applicants in yesterday , 1 washed out on first impression ( looked like a pig ) the other would not stop bad mouthing his former employer long enough for me to ask him a few questions.

Sounds like one of those 16-23 yr hands found sitting in the Pro Driver
    Section in every TS.

I treat the boss with respect. Even when they are lying right to my face. Give it and you will get it.

My first driving job was my best. That company treated us like gold. That was before micro management took over. I had to leave there for health reasons.

They paid for us to go on a holiday weekend together and paid the way for the wives and families. Food beer, canoeing, camping or hotel (our choice.)

We even did a BBQ and went to the swamp buggy races. Their treat. Did I mention beer?
