Good food for thought! Maybe a new thread would be appropriate, or maybe revisit an old one with the same theme. Some of the drivers who are currently trainers or have trained in the past (OHTW? comes to mind) could weigh in.

I'm new at Swift so I don't know. Why is it a dead end job?

worst trucking co.i have ever known of is carolina cargo out of sc.almost all there drivers are criminal ex cons.the co.only pays them .10 a mi.there trucks are a bunch
of junk breaking down every trip.they won,t pay you for break down time or waiting
on a load. the people running carolina should be the ones locked up in prison!!!

Actually that's kind've funny cause I said, more or less, the same thing to OOIDA who sez they are also looking at this issue as they should. The entire rotten mess needs to be redone top to bottem. And it is a mess.

Personally, I think we need to go to a apprentice type program eliminating the schools completly from the process-the cancer begins there. The companies need to wholly take on the training of drivers from through the first year-from student through third to first seat. And trainers-from beginning to end-do not drive-they train. We eliminate the idea of a trainer and student as a team-they ain't. And we start with real traffic, real cargo, real winter and real period-it's the only to get that basic foundation in and set. We all have heard the parbole of the house built upon the sand-same thing applies here and now.

To that mentor, trainer whatever you call yourself trying to argue that less is more. Buddy-that's just insane! I've seen this before many times-it's called, you don't know that you don't know. My advice is that you had better re-evaluate you who are and your impact on those under you. You may seem sage like to them-but to those of us with 10 or 20 times your experience level-not so much.

    Mark-driver. period.
