:smt102 I've been going to school at a Vo-Tech. I'm 7 weeks into the 10 week/(320 hour) course. I acquired my license at the end of the 6th week. I went to an interview this morning and looked over their formal application packet. There was a Training Contract in there that required 1 year commitment after finishing up with their trainer. The recruiter said 4 weeks of training but the Contract said 6-8 weeks of training. If for any reason I voluntarily terminate my employment prior to the 1 year of solo, they would charge me the following: a) $350 general fee; b) $150 per week trainer fee; c) Feul cost; and d) Equipment usage fees.
No set figure, so we could easily be looking at Thousands of dollars. There were also a couple of conditions where I could even be terminated by employer and still be charged these fees. I thanked the lady for inviting me down but I told here that the contract conditions were unexceptable to me.
I had been under the impression that you only faced such (Indentured Servant) type contracts by going to a Company Sponsored Cdl Program. Is this the Norm?
Now I'm really confused

Wow, that sounds absurd. I've heard company run schools where you would owe tuition if you didn't work for the company for a set amount of time. Trainer pay? Fuel charges? Do you mind telling us what company this was?
xlsdraw and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
No it is NOT......personally I'd tell them to stick that contract where the sun don't shine
-
YOU DID THE RIGHT THING! Excuse me for shouting here, but you did. Really.
There are other companies out there. Remember, no matter what you are told verbally, once you sign that contract, you are committed to what is in it.
YA DONE GOOD!
Keep looking and you will find something more appropriate. -
run fast.. run very fast..run very fast laughing your ars off...
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
"if it sounds to good to be true, it usually isn't"........

Keep looking...tell them what they can do with their contract.
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
That is insane. Just goes to show you...read everything...twice! And don't forget to read the fine print.
