I think it's a bad joke when veteran drivers discourage new drivers from entering the trucking field. If it's so bad, why are they still there?

Possibly the Vets know the situation and have made peace with it.

Newbies are for lack of a better word choice babies in the forest filled with mountain lions....

Maybe they feel as if they're too old to start over?

I'm sorry but I don't think that's a valid excuse. My uncle quit his job went to law school and became a lawyer at 49. My mother started teaching at 46. I left the corporate world, set my college degree on fire And started driving at 37. Been almost 7 years now and I haven't looked back once

OK? Are you trying to say people don't feel that way? Everyone's opinion has to match yours? While a lot of truck drivers are very intelligent, especially in real world knowledge, many don't have much formal education. Myself included, but I've never had to beg, steal or borrow in my life.

I'm only trying to say that it's never too late. That's all. Life is too short to spend it doing something that you hate

Werner boosted pay! From below poverty too just above. smh.
Trucking isn't a easy job like some thought, if you can't self motivate and discipline your self, this job just won't cut it for them. My opinion is that most otr drivers are either introverted or antisocial, just my opinion.

Chinatown I think you are a great guy but I disagree with your post ...alot of us old timers that been around 20 30 40 years remember when this was a good paying profession that was held in high regard .
We could raise family on it and had a good living standard ..that isn't true for new entrants for the most part and I was elated when my 21 year old son told me he wanted nothing to do with trucking and became an electrician..

    Best regards my friend .
