Anyone work for NTB, just looking for some input, just went to the open house(driver scope out) there and faxed in my app. I know they haul mainly meijer loads and target too, mostly drop-n-hooks, but has anyone on here drove for them? how do there treat the drivers? thanks

I was a recent grad of a PTDI school. Filled out an application. Was called for an interview. Returned for a pre-trip, a road trip, drug test and start July 2nd out of the Lansing, MI terminal. Seem to have pretty good equipment. I was told that they were getting 60 new trucks.

I will let you know as things go...

I drove for NTB out of Grand Rapids, MI. It was way back in 1994 though so I can't remember many details. I made decent money and it was regional only. I think Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana were the only states I went in with them.

I remember them as one of the better trucking companies I've worked for, if that helps at all. If memory serves me, Meijer loads were 95% of the loads I did...if not 100%. Mostly drop and hooks too. I really liked it there.

I was just wondering how you got hired right out of school?? I was told I needed 2 years OTR , which I do have. Yes they do seem to have decent equipment, and I talked to the owners son Kurt when I went into the open house, he answered any question I asked, I was in his office 30+ minutes, and came away with a very good feeling about working for him. I was interviewed by Kurt as well. A straight forward guy who told it like it was. He told me to bring my wife and he talked to her too. I did my driving test and drug test on the same day and start orientation on July 2nd and 3rd and go with a trainer for 4 weeks starting the following Monday. Was told that I was only going to cover 3 States and I would be home for a min. of 2 days for 5 days out...

oh I see , I just have to attend Orientation for 2 days then ride along with one of the other drivers for 2-3 days and learn the steps at both Target and Meijers DC's then I am on my own from there, 5 days out 2 days off too. Good luck Dave, be safe out there, no load is worth your life or anyone else's... hope to see you over there :) Dean

I drove for NTB for over eight years ending when I retired four years ago. When I left, their fleet of trucks was getting old. They were still using some 1992 Freightliners but I've heard they are upgrading.

Their pay is a little low as they top out at 40cpm which isn't that great now. The starting pay is also low...something like .29 or .31 but they pay more for experience.

They also have some teams now which they didn't have when I drove for them and since they haul down to the Texas area, I'm sure the teams get those runs.

They do haul to a lot of Meijer and Target stores. They didn't have the Target account when I was there but the Meijer loads were mostly D&H. They will keep you moving. When you send an empty call, they will already have you on your next load.

I averaged around 2500 miles a week and my high was 3200. 3200 is a lot of miles for a short haul company. You will do a lot of dock bumping as a lot of the loads will be less than 200 miles. I have bumped a dock six or more times in one day so I hope you are good at backing.

Overall, I thought they were a pretty good company or I wouldn't have stayed as long as I did.

By the way, Kurt is not the owners son. He and his two brothers are the owners. They took over the company when the old man died.

Forgot to mention, they do pay detention and breakdown pay, etc.

Good luck and hope you enjoy driving for them. I did.
