I totally disagree, freedom comes with responsibility to used good judgment. Reasonable man theory here and if you aren't paying attention then we pay for lack of judgment. That is why my radio, gps, cb, and cell have an off button/switch because paying attention is more important than killing or injuring someone over my selfish needs.

In this case the G is doing the right thing but again it is about accountability and if I can't restrain my selfish means then the cops can't either.

Passing ignorant worthless laws is not doing the right thing. This law will do nothing except make stupid people feel safe. Distracted driving has always been illegal, specifying cell phones is just as stupid as specifying each individual type of weapon you can use to kill someone. Do you or anyone else in favor of this law think we should pass 9000 more laws specifying each individual way you could do it?
and so on! This is how stupid this law is, what if I look to my left and swerve and hit someone? Should we then ask the morons in DC to pass a law where looking side to side is also illegal?

Did anyone else see the Miami cop that ran his car up a guide wire on a light pole?

OMG!!! Was he texting? Was he holding a cell phone? Was he checking E-mail? Was he eating? NO!!! he was picking up an ink pen he dropped! Someone should call Washington and tell them we need legislation banning the use of pens! Simply ignorant.:banghead:

I'm thinking some drivers here need a hands free shifter, hands free window crank, hands free turn signal, hands free ball scratcher, etc

There is a rumor that only auto shift transmissions will be allowed in new trucks soon so that a driver has no reason to remove one hand from the wheel to shift. I'm sure someone will start studying the rest, now that it has been brought up.:biggrin_2559:

Look there needs to be some limitations here. So you don't like my thoughts on this law it could be worked on. But you didn't recognize I did say that in order for change to occur that the law (cops) have to comply in order for change to happen.

Most of the time the ones who resist the most are the ones most guilty.

Laws are only as good as the compliance at which they are held too.

There has to be limitations here and from your points too me is you might be one of the biggest offenders here. Just sayin ok.....

If the cops don't enforce this then it doesn't matter right? And remember that when the NTSB brings this kind of stuff up it is through statical data and they are merely making a suggestion. The states can tell the NTSB to pack sand.

Offender huh? Well whatever label you want to use is fine by me. In fact I have 2 cell phones and a laptop which is on whenever I'm in the truck and is almost never disconnected to the internet. Why, because I happen to be in a position that I need to stay connected 24-7. I dispatch 2-3 trucks, schedule pickups, confirm deliveries and order permits. The business I'm in and the freight I haul is 24-7 and being away from a computer for more than 10min can cost me thousands a day. Some loads I have 7 minutes to decide "yes or no" before it's offered to another carrier and it's totally automated. Guess how many accidents I've had? ZERO! When a potential load pops up my computer alerts me and it only takes a quick glance to see if it's good. I can order permits sitting at a red light and believe it or not I can also walk and chew gum.

You do realize like I said before there were people just like you thinking we should outlaw radio's and windshield wipers because they're distracting. Please tell me your thoughts on windshield wipers, are they distracting? Like the cell phone should they be outlawed?

As far as phone usage I can easily burn through 4k minutes a month, the law will not change that.:biggrin_25522: I would much rather outlaw stupid people. Just like speed, cell phones do not cause accidents. Stupid people do!

Look I am not the enemy I believe in reasonable means regarding distractions on the road such as a cell phone because many people can not disipline themselves to wait until it maybe safe to communicate. I've seen enough professional drivers swerving because of distractions so no body is immune here.

I will say one thing here regarding this topic: I am pleased to know you've surpassed us all with your intelligence and ability to reframe from being stupid! I would like to know how you've been able to step out from the rest of the human race?

Great, if the guy is swerving then give him a ticket for failure to control. Busting someone for using a phone because they "might" cause an accident is like arresting someone for carrying a knife because he "might" stab someone.:biggrin_2554:

Hate to tell you but stupid people are everywhere. No offense but if you don't know any then chances are your friends do. just sayn'
