The deal is not using cell phones it is disipline and restraint, I would have figured with all your intelligence to label you'd been able to admit that.

The radio has gotten a lot of people killed over looking down and losing situational awareness and now many controls are on the wheel. Distractions are the problem and when you remove that risk the hazard goes way down.

You have an answering machine at home?
You have to be in the car for many long hours and not able to just pull over anywhere to check a message?
You have to log the stop when you pull over and check the message?
You have to work specific hours and not exceed them?
What if it was a fire at your home?
    Would you want to know?

You must not have a cell phone that is turned on inside your truck? I applaud you for not needing a cell phone. Those things are deadly and you must rather be hit by a woman putting her makeup on or a guy reading the newspaper while driving. Maybe they need to have checkpoints every 15 miles or so and make sure there isn't any makeup, newspapers, books, or the other crap I see people doing everyday. Why stop at cell phone use? Lets go all the way....

Do you think the same about drinking and driving? It's fine as long as you don't lose control?

Cus it's not like anyone's ever done any studies that show that drivers that drink and drive get into more accidents than drivers that don't.

I wonder what we did 20-30 plus years ago? Oh yeah it didn't matter because somehow we survived without them.

I believe it won't change and it is clearly out of control. I am one and I seem to be against all of you and well that would mean I lose right? right! I know my points were drug into the mud because you all wanted to make a point to the newbie. Well done I will go away with my a s s in my hand. :biggrin_25514:

I know what they did in the 60's and 70's.

My uncle did it and tried to call home every night from the truck stop.

Many times they found out much later that something had happened at home.

One time, one uncle had a heart attack and his brother did not find out for almost 2 days.

I am not just making a point to a newbie, but trying to show the impact of the way the HOS have on the driver and the EOBR and their recording each stop. Meanwhile, you have to make the most of the driving time and it is just easier to make or receive a call.

I guess we COULD survive without. But I will add... There were pay phones on every corner, and there were a LOT more places to stop a truck.

Also, I am convinced the electronic conveniences we have today cuts down tremendously on the fatigue of OTR driving of years ago.

Nothing wore you out like standing in line, in the cold, to use a pay phone every hour while waiting on a load. --Call back in an hour...

Also driving around, and around an area looking for your destination. Many times the directions you called the receiver for a couple of days ago aren't making sense. With Cell phones and GPS those issues are worked out much faster and with a lot less stress.

You think drivers wash out quick nowadays? Take away their electronics and watch how fast they hop outta that truck!

--Plus like I mentioned; I bet we see an upswing in fatigue.

No one said eliminate cell phones so the lack of pay phones will not inconveniance anyone.

Bad things happen. You being there or knowing about it will not change that fact.

Best thing I have heard is the FCC mandating movement sensors disabling all transmissions. And yeah I hear all the billy big riggers bragging about how they do it just fine and play on their laptop as well. No you don't. You think you do but the people around you see the diffefence.

For the last #### time it is a vehicle not a phone booth or an internet cafe.

Now somebody pass the dang pop corn and turn the #### song of I'll be hearing Vincent Price for days now:biggrin_25521:
