Most cdl classes only take 2-3 weeks to get them. Some have longer sessions but it all comes out the same. 21 weeks is a lengthy class just for CDL. I think the average length is 2-3 weeks dependin how often you go. Personally, mine took 2 months but I went on the weekends (satuday and sunday only)--for i worked fulltime while getting my cdl's but it varies from different schools.

All this place is going to do is get you your cdl. You will still have no exp. and you will have to hire on with a training company like Schneider, Werner, Swift, or others to get otr training which will take months. Then you will have to stay with that company for 6-12months before any of the better companies will hire you. The college courses are not going to be that more benificial to you then if you were to go to the dmv and get your study guide and study yourself. The only way it helps you is if you do not have access to a truck to take your test with. But no... more then likely you will not be on the road in 3 weeks....maybe at the earliest 3 months.

Thanks for your input. I had talked to a few recruiters and was told I needed to go to truck driving school before I could get a good trucking job. Baker is the closest school for me and it is 7000. They claim to give you the most driving time and etc. I guess I am getting a bit confused here. Sorry for asking all the questions, just trying to protect myself.

In my opinion--7k is a lot for a cdl school. I think in most cases the average is 3500-6000--so i think thats a bit high. You may wanna check around some other places. Maybe check out your local community college--not sure but they may take a bit longer but I am sure it will be cheaper in the long run. Of course you can check with some government help such as grants and stuff to help out but that is a bit high if you ask me.

7k is way too much. 2500-3500 is the norm. That is way to high to invest in something that your not sure of yet. And even if you were sure it way to much. Did I mention it way to much.:biggrin_25521:

Thanks so much for your input. That Nu way has called me already! Must be a shortage of drivers or something.

You would be better off checking with your local community college.

I graduated last week at the Lansing Community College - great team, great support, and support is what you need when starting out a new career. Took five weeks, had free accommodation throughout (home weekends) got my cdl 'A' with all endorsements, they have a lot of good, well maintained equipment, and all for 4195 including all license fees - Good luck in whichever way you go

alot of schools advertise that you can be on the road in 3-4 wks, depending on how much training they provide. this does not mean, however, that you will be on the road making good money as a driver. most every company requires that you spend some time making very lil money while being in the truck w/ a trainer. from there, you should be able to start making decent money and working you're way up the pay scale as you gain more experience.
