So I've got a $50 credit at the Pilot. I've been thinking about a GPS lately but to be honest, I've been fine without one for a couple or three million miles so I'm not blowing big bucks on one.
I'm kinda cheap and a bit of a minimalist as well.
So I was looking at units today and the truck specific ones seem to all have stuff I don't need or want like logbooks and oil change reminders and the list goes on.
All I want is some basic routing help.
Enter the Nuvi52 LM....
Not truck specific, but it has lifetime maps which seems important and it's about. $150 which seems about right for a tightwad like me.
Is it a waste of money or a good value ?
Nuvi52 LM?

If your a truck driver and buy a non specific truck gps your asking for trouble. Look for a 465T that is there cheapest no thrills unit

I put more emphasis on lifetime traffic (FM), than lifetime maps. The traffic feature is very useful if you're in/around larger cities often in the US. They will even tell you where road conditions are worsening with impressive accuracy in many [even rural] areas. Most of the maps updates you do get will invariably NOT have the new road that was finished a year ago. They are very slow to get new road additions and speed limits added in, and you are always hard-pressed to find all the little, insignificant changes with map updates.

I have a Nuvi52 that I use in the truck and it's pretty accurate. On occasion it will show me arriving at my destination 1/4 mile or so before I actually arrive there and once it showed my destination on the left when it was actually on the right, but that is about it. I don't trust it implicitly because it will occasionally try to send me through a no truck area, but it does have a handy detour function that will give you alternative routes.
I use it mostly to get me close, and then if i have doubts I call the receiver for specific directions.
