Been quite some time since I’ve been thru there. I thought I recently read a post about a truck restriction on this route?
I know I’ve run it in the past and can’t find anything about a restriction.
It’s not listed in Rand Motor Carrier.
Anyone from the area have any insight?
    Thanx

Yep there's a truck restriction on the last 2-3 miles where you drop down the hill into Watkins Glen. You can't go past the light where you turn to go to the track.
If you're coming from the west, it's 9-10 miles longer staying on I-86/17 and getting route 14 in Horseheads.

You've got something like a 12% grade, ending in a 90° turn, and a stop light for Rt. 14. I've been past there thousands of times, and I'd NEVER consider driving a semi down that hill. The locals call it "Suicide Hill"....

I know it’s pretty steep been up/down numerous times over the years…just not recently and as I posted had thought I heard about a new restriction. So that’s why I asked

Another option if you’re coming from Bath heading east on 86 you could hop off in Savona and take 226 east(or north not sure how it’s labeled) to 14a. Turn right and follow that over to 14 .That would put you out just North of Watkins Glen. Then you can take that into town.
According to the Hammer app, From the exit in savona, above way is 54 mins 37 miles.
To go down to Elmira and up 14, is 1 hr 6 minutes and 45 miles

    yes

Or run it at night. Outbound you are fine, dropping into The Glen is frowned upon.

A certain someone that drives the white flat top pulling the cattle pot for your boss man called late one night.

"hey, Big Mike was I not supposed 'ta"

ummmmm, yeah dude you weren't supposed to do that.. LOL

Truth be told comin onto 17 at bout 4am I planned to just run it….till I gandered the big ### sign sayin no vehicles over 9 ton before the exit….so I headed to 14….dont know how much further….but even in the wee hours the trip to the Glen takes forever
That stretch of 14 between the towns red lites etc is a real slow roll
    But anyway

Tall Mike and bzinger Thank this.

I wasn't snowin', no reason not to...

Cool coming off the exit and seeing the museum lit up at night with the sculptures all lit up at 2am...

It's really bad in the summer, or race weekend in The Glen. Use to be a good BBQ joint towards the top of town on the left side.
