Ive been a driver for 13 months, call it a good thing or bad thing a bad thing but i never been In NYC. I passed through. I KNOW sooner or later its gonna come up, especially now, as i am a local nj trucker. I have been study the map for months, writing in low clearances here and there. Even drawing where the train tressels are on my map. if you been there, and know some turn by turns that got you to a certain street or turn by turn that got you back out of the city, please share with me. Im going crazy over this!! Thanks!
Nyc : Directions: if you know some of the local streets

you know nydot makes a map specifically for trucks going into nyc.
dirtjersey Thanks this. -
Yep ive got it, looking it over, but you know some of the truck routes on it, the red & blue lines, have low clearances. 10 ft & 11 ft tressels pass over some of those truck routes.
AZS Thanks this. -
I wasnt aware of that. They oughta mark those considering it has sardine canned truck right on the cover.
I take that back, that was on the paper that came with mine saying not to take parkways or end up like that guy. -
Yep got that too.. lol i appreciated their free map, but it makes no sense to makethat map when you cant use some of those truck routes. Look at that map, the blue line says local truck route, it says we can use queens boro bridge, but that clearance is 8'5, it has red line for williamsburg bridge meaning through truck route, but williamsburg bridge is also truck restricted. In brooklyn, it says we can take cropsey, but a tressel passes that way with low clearance. I know nyc is hard and confusing, but nevertheless, its a city like any other. If we just know Where to turn, nyc wont be that bad.

that sucks. havent had to use that map yet as you can tell lol. someone will answer this eventually.

Well if ifigureout some fool proof directions i will be sure to post them for everyone else, low clearances arent everywhere in the city. So there has got to be some routes worth sticking to. I see alot of other local drivers from bronx, brooklyn driving next to me on njtpk, so i know they know...if i get the chance to ask them at a rest stop

As long as you're on a truck route you'll be fine. Dump your air bags if you have to. I only ran BK/Queens so Ive run most of the truck routes and they are good. Watch out around Astoria, very confusing.
dirtjersey Thanks this. -
no parkways !
all bridges are marked 1 foot lower than they actually are ( example a 13' 6" will fit under a 12' 6" marked bridge unless it says actual)
most customers can give you good directions over the phone
not that bad i ran the city for more than 30 yearsdirtjersey Thanks this. -
On this map that you can order for free http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/mot...prequest.shtml it says you can go over a few bridges that YOU CANT, example: It says we can go through brooklyn battery tunnel, williamsburg bridge, manhattan bridge, Trucks can ONLY use GW bridge or Verrazano. NO Tunnels, No parkways. I still took the liberty to take this map and personalize it, looking up on google maps & google earth to get a street veiw level of the streets for low clearances and most of the blue colored local streets check out fine!
