I haven't seen you post much in a while, Terrylamar. Are you still at ATS?

I quit a month ago. I am in the process of getting my own authority. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. My 20 day protest period is up, as of today or yesterday. I'm just waiting to go active. I have a few other things to do. IFTA and Candadian Authority among them. IFTA should have been started a week or two ago, it is a learning process. My trailer will be in tomorrow or Friday and I can pick it up next week. Just odds and ends to go now.

What type of trailer do you plan on pulling?

'02 Transcraft Stepdeck, 53' x 102", sliding rear axle to start with. This is a former ATS trailer. It is, in my opinion, the most versitile, along with bridges and ramps, I can pull almost anything a flatbed can pull. The sliding rear axle gives me access to California and Canada.

Eventually, I will buy a new stepdeck, spec'd they way I want. Then I will buy an RGN.

That is a good trailer. Do you have container locks?

No, I don't know if they can be retro fitted or not. I have thought of this.

One of my trailers is a 2005 53' Transcraft with the container locks. I don't often haul containers, but when I do they usually pay fairly well. It is much faster to load and unload with them. I don't know if they can get retrofitted or not. They also add a little weight.

There's quite a bit to learn. The higher you move up in class, the more your freight lane diversifies. Get into the bigger loads and you will see less and less preloaded trailers. Driving is actually the easy part. Loading, securing and Pre planning are the tricky parts.

    DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!

dont try to drag a load that's wider than 12 ft through a fuel island unless its one of those fuel islands geared towards OD loads.

in the winter, check the weather before accepting an oversized load, and then make sure that load pays enough money for you to sit on it if the weather gets bad.

when pulling an OD load, why the hell are you fueling up in the middle of the day? Either do it at the very beginning or very end of the day.

get a truck stop directory. Especially for loads wider than 12 feet. Loves, Pilots and Flying Hooks are geared towards the door slammer crowd. Odds are against you finding a spot in a door slammer haven 30 minutes after sunset...especially in the east coast. Find a mom and pop joint with a big parking lot, a real restaurant and a cute waitress.

if pulling. A load wider than 12 ft, be sure to research which states that you will be traveling will require a pilot car.

if you have a pilot car and give the escort a copy of your permit, still do your homework and learn that route like the back of your hand. Pilot cars miss turns too. If they go off route, have them buy you a steak dinner. If you follow them off route, you may be n trouble.
