O/O’s what are you paying your driver

    Good afternoon, what are you paying your drivers? Percentage of Net? Rate per mile? Etc... single driver not teams. Just trying to figure out what’s fair for 1 year experienced driver (dry van) hazmat certified. 1099 pay. Home time would be dependent on driver but at least 2-3 weeks on and 3-5 days off dependent on time off needed. I understand it’s hard being an owner and having someone else operate your truck and paying them a competitive salary with no benefits.

    I’ve got a guy that runs three trucks with me he pays his drivers 39% of net.

    What's a competitive salary on a 1099 with no benefits? I didn't know such a thing existed?

    Pay em percentage of gross on the books the right way and be done with it. 30-35% and health ins for just driver.

    I’d pay on W2 so it’s legitimate.

    My drivers make $1300 minimum pay and .54/mi anything over 2400 mile per week. Holidays paid after 3 months and vacation pay starting at 6 months. They normally end up from $1300 to $1700 per week that way.

    What happens if your driver says no I’m not working? With 1099 you have no say since he’s just a contractor. It’s better to do it the right way on w2 as employee and have worker’s compensation in case of an injury.

    Have you checked with your insurance to see if they’ll accept a 1 yr exp driver? Most require 2 years. Frankly, I’d be hesitant to put such an inexperienced driver in my truck anyway. You need someone who can handle situations as they arise out on the road.

    Single, married, kids or not?
    I ask because was thinking if married pay a set salary. Give him $100-150 per week cash advance. Pay rest thru direct deposit, ach, or one of those cash apps that goes to a bank account.
    Why?? Because I had a job like that 30 years ago. Let me tell ya when mama knows she is getting a certain amount every week. Not only does she set a budget. But she won't let ya quit.

    I agree best to pay by w2. There are many reasons to pay on 1099 instead. But dont want to get into that. I'm just curious, what happens when your w-2 drivers says "no I'm not working"
    I suspect the truck owner is in same position either way.
