Today I was booking a load with JB Hunt. My insurance renewed about 2 weeks ago, and JB's front office want an Onwer/Operator Clause on the new certificate with this exact wording:

"As respects the policies indicated above, coverage extends to the named
insured owner operators, subcontractors and agents regarding work being
done under the order of the named insures on behalf of the certificate holder"

And have JB Hunt as the certificate holder.

Can someone help me understand what this means. I turned down the load because I just dont understand this, and the agent at JB Hunt could not tell me why. Other than I will need it on the certificate before I can move any loads with JB Hunt. Now I"ve done quite well without JB and dont want to attach something I dont understand. I have never had any other broker ask for this. Has anyone else seen this? Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks in advance.

If you are a 1 truck outfit then just get it put on your COI and book the loads. If you have multiple trucks, including O/O's it is just saying that you confirm that they are actually on your policy and you will be responsible for making sure coverage was added....etc.

What probably happened was some company with 3 company trucks and 1 owner operator had a policy that covered 4 trucks, then a 5th truck came along, the 5th truck started hauling loads, then one day truck number 5 had an accident with liability and cargo claims. Then the insurance company said, we don't have any record of you adding a 5th truck, therefore the claim is denied. Ever since then JB's lawyers told them to require carriers to put this on the certificate.

All the above is my opinion / two cents but I am certain it isnt too far off what they are saying / requiring.
