I can NEVER think of a situation where a 10speed is better then a 13spd................

If you only hauled light loads all the time it wouldn't be so bad, but I would never have one, love my 18spd.

I honestly think 10spd is better than a 13spd... I do haul containers I have 2 10spds one Cummins and one Detroit. I've driven a 13 spd and it was not right for the hills with containers..

I think a 10spd would be better for intermode 13 and 18 is more of a long haul where not a lot of shifting is required

I know of one large IM company (1200 power units) - all 10 speeds.

Ever since I ditched my 10sp for a 13sp my fuel mileage has increased. Largely from the fact of I no longer have that gap between 10th and 9th, comes in handy when in the hills

I dont shift that much now; when empty I usually just skip shift BUT when I leave Beaufort,NC grossing 92k that 13sp sure is nice

That argument dont hold much weight as MOST companies spec their trucks with 10speeds, a cost factor?

It holds weight in the sense that if they've made the investment in 120 million worth of iron, it's going to be with units that get the job done and if they have 120 million to invest in just powered units, they could spring for the 13 speed. It's not that they CAN'T afford it but that they don't NEED to afford it.

A 10 speed can and does get the job done. You don't buy 1200 of them if they don't work.....

If I'm an O/O - single unit guy, I look rather hard at what a large co is doing because they've GOT to find economy in how they work. If it saves them money, it can/may save me money.

Up to the individual to determine if the extra cash for the 13/18 speed is worth it to them. It wouldn't be for me.
