Exactly! A owner of a truck makes a small fraction of what the truck grosses. The driver will always make more money than the owner.

Why? Cause I am proud of the 1000+ lives I saved, and 16 tons of Pot I help in Busting, and the 8 Cocaine Bust I worked. And what you are complaining about I heard from the Fishermen also, till they needed us to save their rearends from a sinking Vessel.

And by stopping you for DUI or BUI is for your safety, for more are killed by drinking and Boating than other wise. Do you want to be on the highway with a Drunk behind a wheel? Should not want to be on a Boat with a Drunk coxswain another boat.

I have to agree too, but she should have made more than 700.00, which she told me she did get another check for 200.00 so now she made 900.00. That what she had to pay me out of. That before she pays me. Making 1700.00+ out of 900.00.

Thanks for all the replys good and bad. I refigured and came out with a different amount for exspenses. With fuel based at $5 gal ,hazard insurance through OOIDA for $130 month and bobtail $65 month, maintenance of .10 c/p/m ,2290,trailer rental $596 month, cell, supplys, food and cat scale alone my figures came out to around $1.23 a mile. or $12,340 a month. Does this sound more accurate? My husband does know how to do his own oil changes and minor repairs and will be able to use the companys maintenance garage that he leases the truck to for this. We know that the truck was taken care of in the past as it used to belong to the first co. that he started working for. They were on top of things when it came to maintenance. We had thought about getting our own authority but came short on money it would take for that.So we figured to start out by buying and leasing the truck to a Co. first. We live in a rural area where there are only smaller companies to choose from and hope to make this little investment to work for us in our hopefully ol faithfull 93 freightshaker. Sometimes older is better, thats what my hubby says anyway,lol.:biggrin_25519:

Sounds to me like your doing your homework, good girl! As for your truck being old, I run a 1984 model so I wouldn't be scared. It's just a number anyways. My boss has 4 2007 Petes that have been in for warranty work about 3 or 4 times each!:biggrin_25513:
i have done both, my own authority and now leased to a SMALL company. I enjoy both ways. I have thought about getting my own again, but it is hard to get up and running without a good bit of cusion to start on. But around here a lot of the shippers are not adding any carriers because of fuel and everything else being so unstable.
I would recommend leasing to a SMALL company and learn the ropes of o/o-ing first. You can get your authority any time you wish. Just my opinion.
Oh BTW, if your OLD truck does lay down and you can't afford to fix it. You can park it and make that size payment driving for a compny! NO BANKRUPTCY, NO LATE PAYMENTS ON CREDIT REPORT, AND NO REPO! Almost a no brainer if the truck is what you say it is, good luck.

DO NOT BUY THAT TRUCK!! A fresh rebuild eh? That can mean so many things to people. Warranty on the engine? A rebuild can mean anything from washing off the engine and a can of spray paint to out of frame replace everything. For 6100.00 that won't even come close to covering the cost of a a warrantied overhaul/rebuild. I run a 94 pete 379 and wouldn't consider selling for less than 30,000.00. There are so many other things to consider than just the engine. Trans, brakes tires etc. Also with fuel costs being what they are I wouldn't consider anything unless it had an electronic engine for better fuel economy. N14 cummins or 475 Cat 95/96 or newer. Just because it's cheap to get started 1/2 down doesn't make it a good deal. You would be way better off taking your 3000.00 down payment and getting a newer rig that you could lease on to someone. Your 80% lease is 80% of what? Should be at least 1.40 plus a healthy fuel surcharge of at least .60 a mile. I admire your willingness to work hard but you have to work smart too.

Hi Lucky Two; Right You Are ! Now You Have Time For A Priceless Experiment. If You Do This You Will Know Exactly How Things Will Go Once You Do Get Your Truck!. I Think It Would Be A Very Intresting Thing For You To Do. Starting June 1 Pretend You Own The Truck That Your Husband Is Driving For His Employer. Really The Only New Info You Need Is-- How Much Would Each Load He Delivers Now-- Pay If You Had Bought Truck And Operating As Lease? Add In All The Expenses As If You Owned It. When He Puts Fuel In It Record It,when He Dead Heads Record It. Add Your Monthly Payments And Expences. Every Day Will Be A Seperate Page In Your Ledger, this Is Exactly What You Will Need To Do Once You Do Buy Your Truck So Just Get Started On It Now. You Will Need To Have A Daily Expense Log For Tax Purposes And To Know Where The Money Went. An O/o Needs To Be Very Organized . Just Like Any Succesful Bisness. This Can Then Be Reveiwed Any Time You Wish. But You Must Record It Daily,(not) Just Keep A Pile Of Receipts And Guesses About Deadhead New Tires, Maint. Etc.---i Am Assuming He Keeps The Same Truck All The Time.--at The End Of The Month.see How Much You Made .--hope Its A Bunch. This Is What A Loan Co. Would Call A Bisiness Plan....get That Spiral Note Book And Start Tomorrow.-------------------------------------------------------------------------on A Different Note, There Are Companies That Hire O/os Where You Wont Need To Buy Or Maintain A Trailer ,tires Etc.-------they Are Companies That Provide Power Only. Your Tractor To Pick Up Empty Or Preloaded Trailers And Deliver Them Just Like Frieght Goes.----if You Google--- Power Only Trucking Or Some Thing Like That You Will Find Them. They Also Will Have Tractors You Could Purchase From Them As Drivers Retire . Lose There D/l ,etc.
Hope You Do Ledger It Will Be Fun.---------handyman
