Does anybody know of a good reefer company for an owner operator team.
Looking for good miles and a decent rate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I know things are slow right now, just put it out there anyway.
    Thanks

Are you going to buy and team with significant other? If so you should be in good shape I would think even with less paying freight if you can keep moving. Wish I could double the miles for the same payment.

No, not with significant other. My brother in law is an O/O and has been for over 30 yrs. He said he would let me team but he doesn't think he could find a company that would pay good enough to make it worthwhile. I told him about this site and he said to go ahead and ask, but not to get my hopes up.
I'm still looking at all options.

Well I find that confusing, I guess it depends on his definition of worthwhile. If whoever he is with now pays good enough for him to be solo, I don't see how almost twice the loads could be anything but helpful.

I don't think companies pay for "teams" per se, the extra money just happens due to the logistics of the arrangement.

But 30 years O/O, yeah definitely listen to him and not me!

He's not real happy with the co. that he's leased to right now. He's only been with them for 3 months or so. He's looking for a company that can keep him loaded for the most part. The last co. he was with was OK, he was there for about ten yrs.
They started having financial problems and when payday came they would ask him to wait until a certain day to cash his check. He said he's been down that road before and got burnt for 16,000 and he didn't want to risk it again, so he left.
The only problem is the new co. doesn't seem to have the freight they said they had and he is sitting more than he wants to.
So in other words he is looking either way, solo or team.

I'm going to throw some numbers at you. My brother in law was making really good money with his former co. up until last yr. Two yrs. prior to last he grossed 270,000.
I didn't believe him so he showed me his taxes and it was true. His last year he grossed 240,000. It was when his checks had to be put on hold so to speak, he started looking for somewhere to go. With freight rates being depressed he's not going to make anywhere near that so like everybody else he's looking for a better deal. I don't know if he will find it, but it doesnt hurt to look.
I was going to drive with him just as a way to get back into driving. But with the rates and slow freight he doubts any co. could keep us running enough to be able to pay me enough to make it worth it for me.

Yeah no reason not to believe him. All the numbers are big across the board. But what you get to keep is pretty depressing out of all that!

They say $1.30 per mile to run and $1.70 to make anything... if you do the math you keep about 23% of that $250,000.

He's getting $1.30 on the run he has right now. He won't take anything for less than that. His truck and trailer are paid off. I think he said his break even point is .88cpm.
He's actually thinking about giving it up, said he will give it until spring and if things don't pick up some he may call it quits. I really don't know what he would do, for driving is all he knows. But he did say if things stay the way they are he might as well be a company driver.

A guy would make more leased to a 90 cent a mile plus fuel surcharge company right now than what he would working off the load boards. Just ask any of the many owner operators on this site who are doing that as a business model. The load boards are empty and what is there is so cheap that you are lucky to cover operating costs, much less make enough money for a wage.
