Getting tired of the lease on thing, being lied to and fed constant bs and unfair dispatching, so thinking of getting my own authority , How much more do you guys think ill have to pay for insurance? I pay 1200.00 a year now for bobtail ins and 133.00 per week for other ins deducted from pay by the company im now leased on to. My mvr or dmv report is spotless.

You're looking at any where from $1100 - $2500 down and around $700 - $1000 a month. I know those are broad ranges but there are a lot of variables.

What makes you think getting your own authority is gonna stop all the lying and bs?

I called about insurance once...$8k a year and a list as long as my arm of things I couldn't haul or do. If you do this make sure whatever your gonna haul isn't on that list!

I have heard of them giving a 300 and 500 mile radius, havent heard of giving a list of things you couldnt hall. Thats crazy stuff when you are paying that much for the service. What were some of the things you could not haul just out of curiosity?

I would expect tanker insurance to run higher than regular van or reefer....but what do I know:biggrin_2558:

now when you ask about authority you have to consider what your getting authority for , reefer, flatbed, stepdeck, heavy haul and so on when it comes to insurance there is a different rate for everything an insurance company dosent miss a trick when it comes to sticking it to you, can you do anything about it ? nope not a thing you just have to shoppe around.
as far as authority itself , well that depends on what you want you will hear all kinds of tales good and bad about having your own authority how ever if you truly want to be independent thats the only way your going to do it and authority by the way is the cheapest of what your going to have to do but to me its the only way to go and the freight rates are usally higher.
if you lease to a company your just a trucking company employee that has to do the companys bidding, now true you have paperwork but you have paperwork when you lease , no big deal.
will people lie to you ? of course thats the nature of this business, a truck driver will lie to you, a broker is no different , if they can get away with it .
i have my own authority and it is some times a pain but so is trucking but i do make more money and i am independent and i do do it my way.

i think if your going to own your own truck and trailer that is the best way to go but everybody has there own opinion.

good luck yo you my friend.-----southernpride
