O/O what is your pay per mile, try to be honest.lol

Sure it is possible. How well does your truck perform? Are you averaging 5 mpg or 8-9? You have to take on the risk, no matter which way you cut it, in return for a greater reward ... when you decide to get your own truck, the whole game changes, because nobody gives a darn about what your company will be paying your driver (you) except, you ... It will be up to you if you are going to give up a % or run for x.xx per mile in order to earn the gross you are after. Take on more of the responsibility, yes you have more work, but you get to keep all the money. Also, you have to know, or at least have an idea, who your customers will be, how much certain lanes pay, and hone in on how you will earn your money ... Then, you have your own equipment to take care of, to pay for, your own insurance to pay for ... If you are of the crowd that runs an older truck that is next to indestructible, your cost of ownership will be lower, and you can pocket that money .. If you are in new equipment, you take payments off, which directly comes out of your companies gross revenue, which has direct effect on what you can pay yourself to drive it ...

See how there are so many variables to it?

 

What, briefly, is your own formula? Do you know anything about Land Star or Anderson - they seem to be respected. I imagine taking this carrier path in stages such as leasing from Anderson (I've read a lost of positive and very little negative about their lease) then buying my own truck after a couple years and continuing to work for an O/O company for another period untill eventually running independent 6-8 months/year (so as to have more of a life).

Does that sound like a reasonable trajectory? Any resources you'd recommend to better outline a plan?

What's the point in grossing $250k if you could net the same or more on much less gross? Some people work harder than they really have to. It's all about the net.

You are right as far as reasons other than money. There are many good company paying jobs out there. Problem is the work environment in many of them has gone drastically down hill. Young gun safety managers out to make a reputation for themselves and so on. I could never be in one of these trucks that records your every movement and sends messages to some office when you brake hard. The whole idea of having to answer to someone who knows nothing about your job. I have no problem with safety and most regulations. Maybe some guys do need babysitting but I dont need anyone out there trying to justify there job off of my actions.
