I'm not knocking you down, far from it, I apologize if you feel I offended you. I only asked because in my opinion a vast percentage of the folks out here don't seem to have the negotiating skills that are required, to earn what is required to be successful, or have the ability to wait for the better paying loads instead of running for the sake of running.

    Oooookkk?? Be more specific here.

These are HONEST numbers..Not Bloated figures you see on a online message board...

I grossed 163k..After Fuel,Maintenance,fuel/road taxes, insurance, tags and meals..........Thats what It came to.....I wish i made more, But these are the Facts...after I pay my income Taxes..i'll be around $64k for the year profit....

I really cant complain considering I took 6 weeks vacation with family and 2 weeks for truck maintenance.

Im not a spring Chicken anymore and I cant work 51 weeks per year..5-6 days a week 14 hours a day just to make $220,000 gross...Not worth the effort

I had my best year ever as an o/o last year on 135k gross working 6 months. What I netted is not for public consumption but from some of the results I see tossed around here from guys working darn near all year round I can say with 100% confidence gross is a meaningless number. It really does pay to wait for the money... know your lanes.... and dictate your rates....

What I'm saying is I don't pay myself that much, more like 25%

    Gross pay doesn't mean anything.
If you aren't willing to say what you earn, fine but pretending not to understand a simple (and repeated) question is silly behavior.

    I am and I did.
what is "silly" is someone that flip flops often and cant think on their own.

No, he is not CLEARING that per week. Clear will be what is left after all his expenses come out. 3000 @ 1.20 = $3,600
    Assuming 7 mpg (likely less) @ 4.00 gal (430 gl) = $1720
    25% drivers pay off gross = $ 900
Already down to less than a $1,000. Once you factor in the rest of the expenses-i.e. maintenance, tags, insurance, truck payments, taxes, etc. he may find that he has to drive his own truck for 15% or less just to stay in the black. My old accountant, who knows trucking well, always said 8 to 10 percent PROFIT with a truck was a very good year. My opinion now is its not what you gross, its what you keep.

$2.45 per mile TTT on 77265 miles ($189,299) . $1.26 per mile profit ($97353) before driver pay and I counted everything I could come up with for a deduction. I draw $1000 per week for driver pay. Also get $20000 per year retirement. I was pretty happy with these numbers. I was out overnight 118 nights. Not too bad in my opinion. Formed a corporation this year to try and help out with taxes. Could do much more but I like my off time also. Daughter lives in NC and we go up 2 times for a week each time and she comes to Al 2-3 times for a week each. Also take time off at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Many weeks only work 4 days per week. $250000 per year is completely doable. If Anyone doubts these numbers and wants to place a small bet( at least a grand). I'll show my tax returns. Those saying it isn't possible should do a little more homework. The year before I did $229000 on 109000 miles. And spent 187 nights away. Per mile average was not as good. Working to make it better this year.

also I am leased on to a company that takes 15% of gross and they pay the IFTA. O/O pays everything else. Non forced dispatch, but when a customer needs it gone sometimes best to take it even if it isn't exactly where you want to go. Gotta take care of the customers that take care of you and if your the only available truck in the area.....the customers we have are all in the lanes we run anyway so it isn't like you gonna get sent to the north east or something unless that's what you want to do.

also the numbers quoted are to the truck after the carrier got their cut.

Can't get much more specific than this unless I break down my tax return line by line.

If you're making $250K a year, I'm so happy for you; consider yourself lucky; got a contract, enjoy your gravy contract or running team with your wife but a solo owner operator is not making that doing it all alone. But truck drivers are notorious for blowing smoke so you spin it how ever you want to sweetheart!!! There are variables!!! It's not nice to send someone out to the wolves but what ever lets you sleep at night!!! lol All I can say is ya better be good at math and be looking over your shoulder and every broker and mechanic out here is going to have their hand in your pocket at every turn! Good luck!!!
