    gokiddogo,
yeah yeah I agree but I rather run and pay more for truck expense because I seriously would just quit if I had to deal with it a lot.
if I bought a brand new truck or newer used(when my dies) it would be a bit of a different situation though. I would have to do more of the things I cant stand and that would just motivate me more to find a driver and buy another cheap truck for me.
when I go to work it is almost like a 10 day vacation or therapy time, and to make that extra money right now it would be back to WORK.
I really liked one post about how and when to try to grab more money on the same loads.

Can I just ask you, how many miles are on your truck now? You paid 14,000 and are still driving it, correct? Also as to what the starting odometer was on it when you bought it?

Why do you say that? If he runs 3000 miles a week he's still clearing $3000 every week. That's a good chunk Of change in my book.

I must have missed the part where he said that was what he cleared after expenses.

I never said it was after expenses. I just said he's clearing that much. I don't know what his expenses are. Maybe his truck is paid for and he has no bills cause he lives in his truck.

Say a full 50% of the trucks that deliver into Florida will leave empty, because there are only enough loads for 50% of the trucks. Let's also assume that 50% of the trucks were bold enough to charge enough up front to cover the cost of deadheading up into Georgia for a better paying load. In the end, both trucks have traveled the same number of miles for the same gross revenue. Sure, the guy that hauls out of FL for peanuts can afford to go into FL for a lower price than the guy who is hell bent on deadheading out of FL. Repeat this process and you can see it is a downward trend of rates. Work it the other way, where more people are ballsy enough to not go there unless it covers their deadhead, and you can then leave the cheap FL freight for the suckers.

The second half of it is, what is your time and effort worth as a truck owner/driver? You do realize, when you move a load, the shipper, receiver, broker, all make money because YOU moved that load. Without YOU, none of them make any money ... Tell them to put that in their pipe and smoke it when offered a $1/mile load ... oh wait .. it's too late, they already know you will do it .... Further - at what point do you decide, "oh that rate is too low ... I can't haul it for that"? What if they offer a rate that will cover only 50% of your fuel cost? Is that better than nothing?

He said that's what he pulls loads out of Florida for, what he didn't say is what he goes to Florida for.
