The tax I'm talking about is TN state sales tax, just to be clear. The MC# doesn't have to be yours, it can be the # from the carrier you lease to. All of the county clerks have a form for this, and they'll need a copy of your lease agreement to attach to it. If you don't have a lease when you buy your truck (or trailer), you can do a title transfer only. You can get trailer tags at any of the county clerks offices, but you have to get your apportioned tractor tag in Nashville or Humboldt(of all places). Actually, I think you have to get the tractor title transferred at the county clerks office before you can go to Nashville and get the tag.
