First of all saying they are my favorite doesnt mean a lot---because they are the only ones Ive worked for--but still Im impressed with them compared to all that Ive read about other companies.
I chose O&S as my first choice of companies to work for, and was accepted by them. Im a newbie-----thats true and theres a lot about trucking in general that I dont know, but Im currently about half way thru a 6 weeks training program. This program is the reason I chose them in the first place. It consists of a two week stint of local training--servicing local customers, delivering, picking up trailers and a lot of city driving. I have been out on the road as far as about 90 miles but mainly just inside the city. I have had an intensive dose of backing and docking both on large areas and on small ones that require some tight maneuvering. I have been into the underground caves delivering and picking up loads and although sometimes its a bit tedious (the training) I am very thankful for it. I can only imagine how hard some of this would be to learn without the benefit of a trainer-------and one with specific knowledge of these customers.

My road training will begin later this week. That will consist of a MIN. of 10K with an approved trainer (with O&S, an approved trainer has a min. of 1M miles-----not 6 months as Ive seen with other companies) AND, I do all the driving and the trainer is Required to be in the second seat anytime the truck is moving-----none of this team B S with my Trainer in the bunk-----If I need him, he is there, if I screw up----he sees it! They also start a trainee out at a couple cents a mile higher than anyone else I found-----

My decision to go with them was based on Training and compensation. Im not a supertrucker and I was more interested in getting all the training I could before hitting the road alone.

My personal opinion of O&S is that if I got fired tomorrow for something, Id still be impressed with their personal standards and their expectations (fair) from their drivers.
Ive found very little on the internet about O&S, and in that little information Ive not found anything bad-----that in itself speaks volumes!

They classify themselves as a meduim sized company having company, leasees and o/o's
They have dry vans and refers only and dont pull any hazmat loads.

Im sure as time goes by Ill find some things that I dont like about them------but Im not expecting that to be a deal breaker. Perfection in the transportation industry Im thinking would be hard to find.

I had received tentative letters of acceptance form other trucking lines when I got out of driving school------and Im so glad that I chose O&S.

    Irondog Thanks this.

I was under the impression that O&S was an all O/O company.
Their terminal is right down the street from ours, and they used to have a trailer parked off of I-44 that read, "Driver Driven" or something like that.

Long drive to Springfield Underground huh?? About 1.5 miles or so?

    Good luck!

About to finish road training this week.
Still impressed with the company. Training was just that----intense training, my trainer was ever present in the second seat to watch and instruct.

The company is still in black ink when many others are swimming in red ink, they are also updating the fleet with Maaany new Cascadias over the next year.

Heard today that the image of only O/O's isnt true anymore, actually we have only 11% o/o's.

    Reviving an old post sorry!

I'm kind of curious how the OP is doing now? It's been a while!
Oh Yeah they WERE Driver Driven until they went to a full fleece/lease program!

A little birdie is saying political and finical problems are tearing the house that company drivers built down from the inside!

Prime bought into them awhile back, controlling interest, I think. According to Prime Drivers website.

I don't really look at posts and question whether poster maybe office employee. I've seen it challenged here before though. This one makes me wonder. Three posts, all claiming the greatness of O&S and refuting any derogatory claims.
So driver, I'm asking you, what makes O&S great? You have mentioned you have a lease purchase. Can I get the details on their program? Thanks.

First of all, I guess Im surprised that this post is still going at all!!

Secondly, Im surprised that my post couldnt be taken on face value and someone had to think that I was some kind of company shill. Once again, it shows where our society has gone!

My driving career with O&S didnt last long---I had some emergency family matters that required me to be home for a period of a year or so.

When I left O&S, they told me to come back whenever I wanted. I never did, but I never went back to any other company either. I am currently an oversize load escort, I still see O&S trucks almost daily. I dont know anything about the company anymore (good or bad)---But, If I did want to drive a truck again-----O&S would be the first company Id look into. I dont know anyone there--------and for all the negative thinking people, I never was an office employee. I was exactly what I said I was--a beginning truck driver who happened to like the company that I worked for.
