There are a great deal of truckers on the road now that can not speak english. There was someone on these forums just a week ago wanting to know how to dispatch an O/O friend of his that could not read or write english. All we need is more of them here. The DOT will look the other way at the Mexican trucks. There is no money to be made off them. They will go for the US truckers that have to pay up or lose their license and jobs.

This won't be any different than the piece of crap trucks that come down from British Columbia being driven by all the towel heads.

They don't speak English, their trucks are crap and they run the entire I-5 corridor...

Now we'll be getting it from both borders..

The same way I would feel when a Canadian truck pulls in. I don't care, I don't want to haul a load to Canada or Mexico. What a lot of people don't get is neither Canadian or Mexican trucks are allowed to haul loads within the US. A Canadian truck brings a load down from Canada and delivers in the US, reloads and goes back to Canada. The Mexican trucks are no different. If either trucks haul loads within the country they are breaking the law and should be fined. It's not the end of the world but the teamsters want you to believe it is. I don't want to go to Mexico even for vacation so I won't be losing any sleep over a guy taking freight back there.

Can any of you that are paranoid about it honestly say your pissed because you REALLY REALLY wanted that load going to the southern tip of Mexico and a Mexican truck cut the rate and took it from you? Honestly?:biggrin_25512::biggrin_2553:

My rates get cut all the time, not once has it been from a Mexican or Canadian company. In fact the most prevalent foreign company I see hauling the same freight as I do had some of the highest rates going.

I hear about the "Truck safety" crap also. Apparently none of you have a problem with any of the junk US trucks running around? Some people act like if they OK Mexican trucks there's going to be a flood of 30yr old trucks with one working brake and no lights snatching up loads for $.50 per mile.:biggrin_25526:

Correction, NAFTA was signed in 1993 by Bill Clinton, though all presidents since then have supported it. Congress had effectively blocked the cross-border trucking component until 2009.

    BIG Difference:

    1) Canada is a modern civilized nation living within the rule of law, whereas Mexico has vast lawless regions controlled by the cartels.
    2) The Canadian economy and currency is more comparable to the U.S. than Mexico's.
    3) No U.S. trucker in their right mind would travel into Mexico and worry about hijackings, extortion, and getting caught in the middle of a cartel turf war... especially for dirt cheap! You don't have to worry about those things in Canada.

Paranoid? Or acting in our own rational self-interest? Big difference.

    Let's look at the facts

    1) These are the major border crossing-points into the U.S. from Mexico:
    Laredo
    Nogales
    San Diego
    Yuma/El Centro
    El Paso
    McAllen
    Brownsville

    2) Once this program is implemented, tens of thousands of loads originating from and delivering to these areas will vanish. POOF! All that income tax revenue now goes to the Mexican government at the expense of ours.

    3) U.S. Trucking companies who currently haul out of (and into) these areas and wish to survive will now have to search elsewhere for freight. That equates to tens of thousands of loads lost and tens of thousands of U.S. Truckers looking for freight. The law of supply and demand proves this will result in lower rates across the U.S. --> less loads, more trucks = lower prices.

How hard is it to get a fake driver's license or credentials in Mexico?
Just because there are junk US trucks doesn't mean we should open it up for more. If we can't already control the problem we have internally, how the heck are we going to control it when we intentionally make it worse?

I will leave it at this: This is not a matter of equality or race or what-have-you (racial slurs have no place in a rational debate!)... every contractual agreement must have mutual benefits. I see no benefit for our country other than cheaper rates for a select few businesses who are lobbying hard to push this through at the EXPENSE of crippling the U.S. trucking industry and our own ability to control our food supply chain.

Not wanting to get into politics, I would suggest a further reading into the history of NAFTA.

Daddy Bush did the initial negotiations on this. Bill Clinton rammed it through and many in Congress on BOTH sides voted for it. Bill Clinton then signed it.

Many times over the years since then, members of congress and the presidents have called for the expansion of the program.

In fact several years ago this happened prior to the current administration. Review the outrage under George Bush.

I leave nothing to the imagination as far as the idiots in Washington and their plans.
