I used to think it was done in order. I would be fine with that. That’s what I was told. But I’ve become convinced it’s not. I believe load planners use a competent drivers’ hours to help themselves keep the whole fleet running.

I 100 percent agree. A true hustler is a valuable commodity and a go-getter. Gets it done.. He should be rewarded.

You know it never works that way.

Here in the LTL world we have a saying. 80% of the work is done by 20% of the drivers.

The rest of them aren’t subject to the same rules.

You see, the slackers get away with it constantly because they are EXPECTED to be screwups, whereas the PRODUCTIVE drivers who as you rightly point out should be rewarded are held to a far higher standard because they are expected to do better, such as having one of the relatively inefficient days that we all have once in a while.

The competent guy gets the afternoon pickup because they know he can get it done. The idiot gets the 11am up the road.

Oh Cats, I didn't think I had to tell you how this game is played:

You know once you 'prove yourself to your dispatcher,' and show the 'hustle,' they will be all over themselves to get you more 'freight.' Once 'you show them how you like to run,' they will move heaven and earth to 'get you the freight you need to make you sucsessful.'

As you should know, 'there is a driver shortage now,' 'it has reach crisis levels,' and 'they cannot afford to loose a good driver.' 'They want to keep you happy.' And 'if you keep the planners happy, they will keep you happy.'

You need to be 'proactive.''You need to have a good working relationship with your dispatcher.' 'Favors will always pay off in spades.' 'You scratch their back, they will scratch yours.' 'How can you expect the good runs if you don't take the locals without complaint (or pay)?' 'You need to sit down, and have a face to face conversation with your dispatcher and find out what works for you.'

'The quicker you run your load the quicker they can plan you for the next.' 'When you learn how to work the system....'

Of course you should know, 'they just spoon feed you freight, and keep it easy for you, until they are sure you can run.' 'Once you prove yourself, once you show them your a (super)trucker, the freight just come.' Maybe your not a supertrucker yet?

I just know when I was running for a mega ' I would average 4000miles a week .' I would 'keep the door shut' and 'be out months at time.' Of course 'they would reward my hard work and I spent every reset at home, not in the sleeper.'

I don't know about you Cats. What is you major malfunction? I heard all this good info on how trucking is run my first week on the job at orientation. It came straight from the recruiter, confirmed by dispatch, and repeated on the web ad nauseam; so it must be true.

I dropped a trailer at one of my terminals then hustled my way to the nearest bathroom. The I heard some commotion outside the door... blablabla driver blabla bathroom.

So I went out and this lady said I am not allowed to use the “office” bathrooms. She told me driver nathrooms are down past the showers, she said use those nathrooms to pee on the floor. I am not to use the illustrious office lavatory again.

Then she was like you didn’t even wash your hands, did you. I said no, I forego washing when the bathroom police are after me.

That was almost 2am too. They really mean business keeping drivers in just a few areas. I am New there and they knew right away I was a driver. Must have been the pajamas.
