Hi. I'm curious about actually getting my foot in the door with a company. I'll explain my situation and my qualifications. I'm Active Duty Army Infantry with the 101st Airborne; I'm getting out in October and I'll be attending a CDL school. I've already applied and am currently talking to their admissions to work out my GI Bill. I also enlisted in the National Guard as a Motor Transport Operator. I have several military licenses for Humvees, MRAPS, and LMTV's (supply trucks). When I get to my unit I'll be getting more military licenses on different military issued long-haul trucks among others. Within a few months of being in the national guard I'll be attending a 2 week school for Motor Transport Operators to actually learn that job. I also have experience in Afghanistan driving convoys with International Maxxpros and MAT-V's, sometimes with small trailers. I have no other driving experience. I've also never been pulled over for anything, or even got in trouble with law enforcement for anything. I have a resume written up that will be proofread by Army transition counselors in a few weeks, so that won't be a problem.
NOW...How likely am I to get hired? I'm most interested in Schneider right now because they're somewhat close to home, military friendly, and even their regional positions and LTL positions have openings for new students and even for prior military without their CDL. JB Hunt is my second choice and I'm also highly interested in driving flatbed or tankers. I'm very willing to drive OTR but I'd like to at least try to get into a more home-time friendly company first.
I'm sure there are a few military guys on here who can understand the amount of stress it is to transition out of the military with no job lined up, so thanks in advance for attempting to relieve mine by giving me any help or advice that you can.
Edit: If you know of any flatbed or tanker companies that hire CDL school graduates right off the bat, I'd appreciate it if you'd tell me about them.

You really should have no problem, all companies get a big BIG tax credit for hiring people like you.
You out better change your profile to where you're located or they will clobber youShinedown1092 and Chinatown Thank this. -
Here's 7 tanker/hazmat companies that hire new CDL graduates; they all do even if the website may have something different:
Schneider Bulk
Superior Carriers
Trimac
Airgas
CTL Transportation
SVTN
Tidewater Transittucker and Shinedown1092 Thank this. -
Thanks Chinatown for that list. I'll add it to my notepad document of prospects. So basically ignore the requirements on the job description page, just apply and see what happens lol. Who knows, I may get lucky. -
Shinedown1092 Thanks this.

What are the chances of them actually getting back to me? From what I've heard the trucking industry is in desperate need of new recruits.

Shinedown1092 Thanks this.

make changes to your profile so we know where you are from and dont have to pull ideas as to your location out of thin air.
Last I had heard, companies dont look at driving experience overseas as relevant experience here. I could be wrong, but I remember another army transportation guy that posted in the past few months that was told the same thing.tucker Thanks this. -
