I didn't think convoys in Afghanistan would count, but it is driving experience in a big truck, so it's something at least. Currently I'm in the infantry, so I don't really work with actual big rigs yet. Once I get to my unit in the National Guard in October, my job will be changed specifically to Motor Transport Operator. So although I will have the training, I won't have the experience.

If you were 101st, were you stupid enough to jump out of a perfectly good airplane? That might be a problem. Off we go into the wild blue yonder.....
Everyone has given you good advice, let me add. The GI Bill will also pay you the difference between starting pay during training and real full time pay. I know that some companies pay you only $58 during your training period. The GI Bill will pay you what your trainer is being paid minus that $58.
There are a lot of veterans who drive. One of the things that Veterans have in common is that we usually have low tolerances for stupidity. You will find out that we deal with stupid every day. Remember to think, "yes sir, yes sir, three bags fool."
Welcome to trucking and thank my son for his service. He was out in front of your convoys finding and removing the IUD's. -
I'm trying to avoid using my GI Bill for company training because it generally comes with some sort of contract, but if that's what it comes down to, I'll do it, and I'll keep what you said in mind.
Oh and 101st is an air assault division now. We rope out of helicopters now lol. The name kind of throws you off. We lost jump status in 1973.Shaggy Thanks this. -
Which part of PA do you live? Just name a city, I wouldn't waste the GI bill on a CDL. Plenty of PA resources to obtain a CDL. Use the GI to continue education . Move into management and throw out those good idea fairies

I am using my GI BIll for my CDL school. There is no contract. It pays for my school, I pass school simple as that. The GI Bill OJT program that a lot of employers use is a very good program, there is also no contract, if the employer has the program, then you sign up. Youll get a check from the VA for a set amount for anywhere from a year to 2 years depends on the company. TMC advertises that their OJT program is 2 years, Melton Truck lines is 1 year, and NTB is 1 year. As of now, I am committed to TMC, they are military friendly and its said they run their program like its a military unit.

I'm in Lancaster County. I'd really like to go to school just to beef up my resume, I could get my CDL if I really wanted to.
@Gunner75, I'll check out TMCShaggy Thanks this.
