That will work as long as your prospective employer is OK with it and most should be for sure. I always tell a company I call were I am going to school just in case they have a beef with it. So far so good.

 

####, my school is 8 weeks at 5 hours a day 4 days a week from 5pm to 10pm. I still have to work full time and go to school

 

The other part to that too is if you was to get your CDL while in, and not use it for several months till after you get you, a lot of companies will want you to get a refresher before even hiring on with them

 

I believe some companies get all excited knowing ya'll cant/wont/dont drive faster then 45 mph

 

Good deal shinedown! Once you start school keep a diary of your day to day experiences on this blog perhaps and on paper definitely. Keep track of everything you learn and how many miles you drive before you test. Hopefully you will drive at least 150 to 200 miles anything less especially if you're forking over thousands of your hard earned gi bill for this school is a ripoff. Although you may have experience I wouldnt just look at this as just getting your cdl. Get the best education possible and get your moneys worth.

 

You accept those generic answers? Steel mill as a laborer or have their own fleet? . Plenty of postings on here in detail how to get that " experience required " job. 1 bad experience and you accepted that defeat? never said ALL companies are veteran friendly.

It seems you have your act together, have you thought about buying your own truck and leasing on to someone? Save the money for the school, with your military exp. You should have no problem getting your cdl on your own. Just study and take the written, then for several hundred $ there are places that will coach you on pre trips and let you use their truck.
You may have to pay through the nose for insurance for a couple years but you will still make more money than being an indentured servant at one off the mega carriers.
Small local banks are your friends, are any gi business loans available to you?
And remember you need the best fuel mileage for the best profit. The new cascadia evolutions really make your bank account look sexy and a thermoking tripac is an invaluable tool.
