Hi I've gone through a few posts about overdrive in 13 speeds.

    How is it used exactly?

    Never dealt with it before..

Do I reach max gears than turn it on/off?

Depending on how much you like to shift, how heavy you are and how much horsepower you have, you essentially go into hi range, then split it into od, then split back to direct while shifting into the next gear. And so on until you are in 8th over. Light, gobs of horsepower, downhill, etc, you might straight stick until 8th, then split.

So it's just basic splitting gears??

On a 13 spd, just either hi or low. Normally hi.
(I say this while knowing there is a straight truck sitting in our yard that I have driven, with the lo side having the splitter, which no one ever uses :>)
    Lo range 1, 2, 3, 4
    Hi range 5 lo, 5 hi, 6 lo, 6 hi, 7 lo, 7 hi, 8 lo, 8 hi
only makes 12. There's a granny gear lower than 1 called lo. LOL.

On the interstate, I go to 8 hi, set the cruise and drink my coffee.

Oh yes I'm aware of that, you can split that granny gear in a 18 too....

Pft I thought it was something I'm missing out on lol

Yep, but you don't have to use the splitter in every gear. In fact, you could ignore the splitter and drive it like a 9 speed. But I love being able to split gears so that I can keep the engine RPM right where I need it.

I’m probably wrong. The way I understand overdrive has more to do with final drive ratio.I believe my 13 spd final drive is .73. 12 th gear is . 84 . Thus it’s a double overdrive trans. 11 th gear is direct 1:1. A 13 spd direct or overdrive shift the same. OD only refers to drive ratios Either way you pre-select before shifting on high side only. Wind up and hit switch repeat

That was the pattern on the 13 direct I drove.

That was the pattern on the 13 single and double overs I drove. (I know it’s not a true double over @wore out but I ain’t got the patience to explain that tonite)

You don’t turn anything on or off. Your simply changing the final output ratio of the transmission at the driveshaft. Same as any other transmission.
    Count 1-10 that’s a ten speed, count 1-13 that’s a 13.
Most anymore you preselect splits and range changes. You didn’t use to preselect splits, just range changes. That actually sucked, bc you had to do a complete lever shift first. So it was basically useless in faster downshift situations.
