Here’s the before & after pics of my steer tires & drive tires. As you can see in the first 2 pics, front tire is wore down to the belt on one side of one half. Drive tires had extreme cupping issues. The 3rd & 5th pics are my steer tires currently with 150k miles on them and the 4th pic is my current drives with about 200k or so. ALL I did was replace shocks, 3-axle alignment, and Centramatic wheel balancers all the way around. It also smoothed out the ride so much that I thought it was a completely different truck. You can now set a cup of coffee on the dash and it won’t spill a drop if you’re on a smooth road.

    Gumper Thanks this.

Looks exactly like what I had going on. Already did new shocks, will have to try to get some balancers.

I promise... if you don’t have a liquid media based balancers on your wheel ends, they ARE out of balance. Even if everything is brand new. Lead weights only balance the tire until there is measureable tread wear and then they are only hurting the balance. They also don’t do anything for the brake drums, which also are out-of-balance from the factory and have to be balanced along with the tire & wheel. If I didn’t go thru all of this myself, I swear I wouldn’t believe it either but I swear... balancing DOES have this much effect on tire wear! You can have the most unique wear pattern developing and throw on a set of “continuous” balancers and BAM... issues completely gone! I’m not a salesman for Centramatic nor do I make any kind of commission from the sale of them... I’m just a truck driver and I can say without a doubt.. they work 100%.

    1) change your steer tires. They WILL blow out soon.
    2) the wear on your tandems are most likely due to a misalignment of one of the drive axles.
    3) just get a full alignment. If your steer tires wear as you say that means there like this. /------/
That's bad camber. Supposed to be like this max 1/2 a degree difference each side. \---------/
What you want is positive camber.

I might be misunderstanding your post... but sounds like you are talking about the pictures of my tires? Those were the “before any work was done” & “after the issue was corrected” pics that I took to show other people about tire wear patterns and how much balancing, shocks, & alignments effect tires. I do appreciate your comments though... you are correct.

Do yourself a favor, go see Chad Hohn at Alignment Solutions in Kansas City. Look him up and give him a call.

I had a similar situation. 3 axel alignment, rear was out. Balance masters, all 3 axels. 40k on new tires with no issues.

Everyone’s right about balance. What’s happening is the bad alignment causes uneven wear which causes out of balance tires.I’ve ran a while under those circumstances. By flipping tires around and rebalancing or using equal or beads tires last a little longer. Bad shocks causes the step wear on the Drives.and besides alignment edge wear could be caused by bad rear spring hanger bushings.AG100 has a bad track record for bushings
