Does ipd also warranty the labor if you do it yourself?

I was a victim too, along with Brock. In framed mine down at Rawze's house, Rawze has the tool to counterbore. Apex Tool has all of the stuff you will need... Specialty automotive diesel tools & diagnostic tools including NEXIQ USB-Link: Apex Tools

Do it yourself and make sure it is done right, or take it down to Haggai Automotive and Diesel Repair South of Atlanta. He is the only guy in the states that I know of that stands behind his work, and does the job correctly the first time around.

I do not believe they do. I was down in Atlanta a few months ago, visited an outfit there that had 200 Fitzgerald trucks, all with Detroit motors that were remanufactured with IPD parts, they were failing at 200,000 miles. All sorts of issues. Fitz sent new parts, but those failed. This outfit went to Detroit, and bought all new OEM parts and started rebuilding motors. Some guys say IPD is ok, but quite honestly, I would stay away from them. Cat parts are getting rather sketchy, even the ones direct from Cat. Good luck.

It says on page 2 labor coverage for warranty. I thought that Fitz was using some Interstate Mcbee parts in the in house reman engines.

I swear the guys that owned these trucks said IPD... But, I could be wrong if you know different. IPD has been a topic for a bit, maybe I made a mistake. I know that they will now only use genuine OEM Detroit parts and in frame kits.

I have had some sure enough junk aftermarket parts in my hand. I had a B model with a fresh inframe like 10 miles fresh brought that scored number 2. All four corners. The wrist pin holes in pistons were perfectly round no relief holes to oil. They were not pleased with their bargain kit to say the least. Not all aftermarket stuff is junk but a lot is. I have pulled heads off of Fitz in house rebuilds that I took the head bolts loose with a 1/2 long handle ratchet. I'm sure they torqued them. I just bet they left oil in the holes and didn't lube them. Most guys have no clue what went in their motor as a rule. Easy way to tell is they say it had everything done to it lol.

I guess whatever parts are used they must be qc inspected by the installer. I worked for darr cat back in the mid 1990s and don't remember having problems then with cat parts but that was awhile back, have never used aftermarket in a cat rebuild. Success rate is probably 90% the guy doing the work either way. I have removed head bolts like that also, and wondered if they should be retorqued after a run in period. Never saw that mentioned in the manual though. If Ipd has a good labor warranty they should be decent parts or they would be broke by now you would think. Will probably go this way and be very careful and double check everything. I bet it wont run as long as this one did (2 mil miles with only head replaced and some minor things) but im getting old so it may outlast me. Thanks for all the comments, really appreciated and makes me a little more confident, I hate doing things over.

I’ve never heard of anyone covering your labor if you do it yourself. And if something let’s go you gotta prove it’s not installation error....

But your still probably better off taking your time and doing it yourself.

I wouldn't feel safe w/o a re-torque. I don't know about cat but with mack they want you to torque again after break in and once again after 5k or so.....

I think re-torque of head bolts depends on style of head gaskets and type of head bolt. Most newer gaskets do not require a re-torque. The newer MP motors for Mack do not require a re-torque, yet bolts can only be used four times. Best is to have and follow the service manual.
