It is NOT pleasant to say this to any individual at all.

Your best bet is to call the employer who hired you at $80,000 a year, and flat out tell him or her that you CANNOT rightfully accept the job.
Mention that you CANNOT drive a stick shift and that you would be doing the company a SERIOUS DISSERVICE, if hired on.

Afterwards, go out and GENUINELY LEARN how to drive a manual transmission, even if it means going back to CDL school and starting all over at the beginning.
Get on with a starter trucking company that actually uses manual transmissions and get a FULL 5 to 10 years worth of manual transmission experience under your belt.

Once you have gotten a FULL 5 to 10 years worth of manual transmission experience under your belt, then reapply at the trucking company that is paying $80,000 a year.

Good luck to you! God bless you and your entire family!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Then again I also ask what types of dump trailers have you operated? Frameless, 1/4 frame, full frame? I got trucks and heavy equipment worth more than most peoples homes. I don’t need anyone pullin the “fake it till you make it”

well then obviously, that is specialized compared to my usual van. i would have thought so, especially when you mentioned LL. and as a result, the reason why in my nearly 40 years, i have never seen that on any application i filled out.

but the "ordinary truck driving application" does not ask those questions.

Seriously, you offer as a valid suggestion, getting ‘five to ten years’ experience on a manual?

I do not understand how you are in any way qualified to make any serious suggestions, beyond a purely theoretical level, given where you have admitted you have no experience.

Shifting a manual transmission isn’t rocket science. Yes, it will take some time to become really proficient, but...five years? No.

Please, just don’t offer advice that is truly based in...nothing. I guess you may think you’re being helpful, but, those sorts of ‘answers’ are not helpful to anyone.

I’ve silently read many posts, where similar advice was offered by you, not related to manual transmissions, but on other subjects.

When you truly don’t have a grasp of the subject matter, adding ‘noise’ to the cacauphony of print already here, doesn’t serve any valid purpose.

It is better to speak because you have something to say, than to speak because you have to say something.

You can always say you have 5-10 years experience. Then just wing it on day one!

Just passing by, Dumdriver and Dan.S Thank this.

correct, i thought he was off the wall with the 5 to 10 years as well, but i did not know he is not a driver either.
minimum of 6 months, and the o/p should be able to use his previous experience AND the updated 6 months and get that job.
